WOF Check Refusal!!

the curiosity got the better of me and thought i would put lada for a wof check at the corner of stanmore and alexandra st. I have had some bloody dodgy cars....but I have NEVER been refused a WOF check before, he too kit for a drive around the block and just flat out refused to give me WOF check said he wasnt going to put his name to the thing and wouldnt even take my money,he said just by driving round the block he had the WOF check sheet filled up,now as I have said I have had a few structually unsound cars, and the Lada does not seem like one.Just wondering..........is this a common thing in CHCH refusing peoples money and has anyone been refused a WOF check before??

I have refused to perform a WOF check on the car - cos the car came in on steel wheels that were obviously not the wheels that were normally fitted to the car and

I was sure he was going to get a WOF and then go home and fit the usual chrome twennys with bald tyres..

can understand chaps not wanting to put there name on dodgy shit bu if some little ratbag gets a wof (and car is legit) then goes home and slaps cutties and bald tyres on, surely its not your fault etc?

I would have though the WOF dude would have to take it for inspection

Yeah its out of my control but why have to go through the bullshit of an investigation if something happens cos of something I was aware of..

Also my trailer was refused to be checked for a WOF first time for similar reasons - my WOF guy didn't want the shit falling back on him if something happened.

If this is the case most wof inspectors will write on the sheet saying notes like "X wheels fitted at time of wof", or "Tints removed for wof check" etc. That way its noted the defect was not present when wof check was carried out

thats what they do if theyr onto it...

when i was working at the muffler shop there was a shit rx7 come in, boned on mods,0% tints,flares etc..pretty gay really..

failed on everything..

came back in 2 days later, was jacked as, on steels,windows wound down..flares off..

so i told the boss, thats had the rims changed, suspension changed, check the windows for the tints and note the flares removed..

on the wof sheet he commented:

wheels have changed since initial check, suspension height changed, flares removed...covers his arse..

he made them wind the windows up and what do you know??? stil had the tints on...so he made them rip them off on the spot..

got a wof then it fucked off...pretty sure it fucked out a couple of weeks later..haha

i had that once before in my race car given it did only have 1 seat in it but it was all legal they just refused to wof me because i didnt have the factory 3pt belt i had 4 point harnesses in and even had msnz cert for them but he didnt want to listen even when i had the extract from the virm in my hand stating i didnt need them because i had msnz cert

A WOF is a safety check, I would have thought in the interests of safety he would have checked it so you knew what was wrong with it/taken your wad of cash. He doesn't have to put his name on anything if he is so sure it is going to fail.

Did he at least inform you what he was going to fill the list up with?

Yeah hit a VINZ, I take some old stuff to the airport branch as the inspectors are more on to it when it comes to the older stuff.

maybe the guy got raped in the back of a lada, and it all come flooding back...

but thats just BS refusing to do a wof check...who turns down cash??? he couldve atleast said FAIL, and why..not just "nah fuck off"..

was the brakes pretty average or the suspension not there or something?? confusing why he'd do that

Pretty sure a business can decline any work technically? It is a bit ratshit though.

From his perspective, his hourly rate might be say $80/hr, writing a 1000 word essay on what is wrong with said vehicle and spending quite a long time to double check borderline things against the rulebook/virm far exceeding $45 (or whatever they charge for a wof) worth of labour.

Then to get no work out of the warrent to offset the extra time lost.

Not trying to come across as a cunt or anything but looking at it from a business point of view its probably a loss/loss situation.

Good point, my problem is I went in early this morning to book two cars in,told me there were no booking just drive on in, so I know he wasnt busy, when he came back from driving the Lada he said something about extra gauges and switches, which was really nothing, he didnt show me the WOF sheet, even though he said the problems were going to fill the whole damn thing,all I wanted was an honest warrent so I can see what needs done,so am preplexed as to what the big issue is, as he was more than happy to take my Suburu through for a warrant.
