Not sure how op got on in the end. But depending what your budget it you may be disappointed. Looking at the bonnet posted originally there is a few days work to punch those louvers and paint ontop of that. Becomes 2 3 4k pretty quick Marking out is extremely time consuming as there is no going back if there crooked haha Quote

Rhyscar Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 You can buy the dies to do this at home. Might be cheaper than labour and you get to learn something cool. Chances of bonnet being straight afterwards might be low though. Unsure how much of a fine art it is to stop it deforming as you go. https://www.machineryhouse.co.nz/p1173 1 Quote

Seems like a nice guy. For anybody who wants to know: $65 p/hr set up . Marking out , lay-out etc. usually between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours. then $3.oo per louver . Edit: More info Louvers are 75mm wide. Allow 29 mm from the opening of one louver to the opening of the next. Also allow 25mm minimum between rows . Allow 25mm on sides , front and rear for tooling , particularly if your leaving the bracing in place. 10 Quote
dmulally Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 I was able to cut off the under-bonnet bracing which made it a little floppy but after the stamping is done I can weld in some box tubing to help out. I've coated it in acid to help keep it from rusting in the meantime. Sadly there was a thick layer of bog on it so it will need a bit of mucking around when it comes back to blend it back in. Dropping it off this weekend so I'll report back when done. 4 Quote
RXFORD Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 My 2c on the matter having done a fair few of them. I highly recommened spending a bit of extra money and having him run a test panel in the form of a strip. To be honest I would be surprosed if he doesn't already have some made for this purpose. That way you can sit it over you bonnet and make sure you are 100% happy with the layout/spacing before turning a bonnet into a cheese grater. Just marking out the punch lines isn't enough. Its really hard to visualise. Yeh it can get expensive with the extra time, but so can buying more bonnets. 5 Quote
Popular Post dmulally Posted June 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 6, 2023 $343 all up. Happy with that. Now to go pick it up! 11 1 Quote
Tiger Tamer Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 So the Imp engine is out of the rear and you have louvers in the boot which you call a bonnet, so it must mean you are going front engine ?. Front wheel drive ?. Quote
