lowlancer
Mean. I love old shit like that. So dash turbo is still the plan?
fuel
yep yep full steam ahead with DASH churbro swap - I'll just be running TBI with factory ECU for a while before I sort out multi point and megasquirt.

ProZac
Lub your work. Look forward to see in MPI setup on a dash motor.
fuel
it'll be TBI for now, but I'm getting a spare DASH inlet mani to cut up and make into an EFI manifold. That's assuming I don't sell it before then.
Dell'orto
Any idea on what caused the ringlands to break like that? Much detonation marks, or just old cast pistons?
fuel
I would say it was the 16psi+ the engine saw around Taupo track 2, however the Eternas engine held up to the same abuse for no less than three trackdays at that boost level. There's no detonation marks anywhere on the crowns of the pistons, but I did initially have an issue with the engine pinking quite severely once the turbo gear was re-fitted, but it was mostly due to over-advanced ignition timing and was quickly rectified. These pistons use 2mm thick compression rings and the ring land width isn't that big so they are more prone to this happening over the later model pistons with thinner things. Due to the primitive ECI system usually you melt or crack ring lands on pistons 1 & 4 as they run lean while pistons 2 & 3 run richer, however it was piston #3 which did the damage which goes against the grain. Ah well with the HKS forged pistons which run 1.2/1.5mm rings hopefully it wont happen again.
Jif
That third valve looks like weird growth like a third nipple on an engine
fuel
your face looks like a weird growth on your shoulders.
Seedy Al
Crap that Dash head setup is so awsome for the time. I Like a lot. I havnt really followed this build, like many, however that is shit that eninge cost you heaps more than expected, still, this thing is going to be freaken sweet once going again
Spencer
Sweet yo, going to lush that head up as well?
fuel
the head has been rebuilt before in the past, it looks fairly clean and has numbers engraved over the rocker arms and shafts etc for placement. I can see newish valve stem seals fitted too. besides, I'm pretty much flat broke thanks to the bottom end, I don't think I could justify spending another few hundy on the head, especially when things like valve stem seals, valves, inlet manifold etc are specific to the DASH head and they no longer make spares for it! Spencer
Oh yup if its reasonably fresh then thats gravy
Ranter
There are still a few head sets left in NZ, not cheap though. Probably not worth when the main difference is an inlet gasket and some valve stem seals V2040K part number through I think NZ Gaskets. fuel
yeah, it's mainly the inlet manifold, valve stem seals and the rocker cover gasket which is different. I just kept the intake manifold attached, valve stem seals have already been replaced, and rocker cover gasket can be re-used - am using the normal SOHC head gasket which cost all of $20+GST. spanners
Please tell me you want that black W/B stazza on TM
fuel
it's definitely a widebody but nah not that black one, not so keen on being LHD and lethargic 2.6L engine. This one is a UK-spec model with 2.0 and under 60km on the clock.
