  1. Thoughts on a few of us rocking up and down molesworth on Ag bikes? Or we aiming for number plates?
  2. Big thanks to Drew (vk327 on here) for whipping up looms for me and the brother. While I'm sure an LS1 loom isnt toooooo hard, these later model engine ones turned out to be relatively complex and I am so fucking glad I didn't bother attempting it. There are a few little quirks that would have 100% caught me out, like the fact that my loom that came with engine was missing plugs and shit. Drew knows all the ins and outs which meant that the final product is essentially as good as it can possibly be for tuneability and coolcuntness. ECU/PCM now has base tune on it to roughly match cam, so I should be able to drive it down to the tuners for a tidy up and the all important power/torque figures. I should probably do a skid soon.
  3. Fuck I love these. Please put some giant wheels on it and do a burnout
  4. Man that airbox is such a cool idea. No silly wank stuff, just more power
  5. So my expensive engine mounts from the USA were shit. They looked nice but engine was high and way off centre. I tried my hardest to accept it and move on but fuck that. Made new engine mounts that sit engine about 30mm lower and way more central. In the interests of making the certifier think I’m not a cefiro person, I tried to make them look ok. Had very limited resources as can’t buy stuff in lockdown so it’s made from 2” pipe and a mix of 10 and 5mm plate. I kept the old Sikky urethanes just cos then it’s not a complete waste of money? It’s welded to fuck so shouldn’t let go anytime soon... currently getting the paint baked on.
  6. Well fuck haha. i think in the long run that running the GM unit will be easier for tuning and I suspect this layout will be better for heel/toe but I just need to find tune placement. Im quite disappointed I didn’t think about e46 throttle tho
  7. Oh my Lordy. Made some plates with the intention of plug welding them to the firewall. Got stuck in to the welding which was quite fiddly under the dash. Was smoking a bit and got to the point where the smoke was a bit worrying, so hunted round to find source and sure enough, fire! Couldn’t find it but could see orange glow. Went into full panic mode and ripped inner guard liner off to find the fire on foam attached to back of firewall. Put it out but I think it took a few years off my life. Anyway bolted pedal up and it’s not in a great position. When you hit brake pedal the side of your shoe catches the throttle. Will be great for heel/toe but maybe also bad for doing an Audi5000 and jamming on the throttle while panic braking. I think moving the go pedal back toward firewall and across to the right a little bit might fix it, but I’ll do a test drive before I make changes.
  8. Trying to find things to do that don't require new bits. Lockdown and all. Thought I'd get stuck into the go pedal. The LS I'm using has an E-throttle, where the bmw setup used the other kind of wires. The BMW one also hinged off the floor (I forget name for this style) but the commodore one is normal. I actually really liked the BMW one and would have kept it and butchered the commy pedal and gutted it, if only it wasn't plastic. So instead, I pulled up carpet ripped out some fire damaged foam, cleared some space, and in a strange turn of events the BMW firewall is flat where i need to mount. The pedal needed spacing out from firewall quite a lot which meant getting my binky on and making a bracket. Pretty limited on available supplies so found some galv RHS to cut up and got to work. Tacked up what I thought would work and then did some trial fitting. Seemed to be ok but was too wide and hit the +ve cable coming from battery (runs along under/beside the pedal) so trimmed it down quite a bit. When I was happy, whipped out the welder and smoked out the garage. De-spatter and a lick of paint and it's not actually too yuck. I put in some speed holes because I didn't want it to look like its made from RHS. I don't have access to dimple kit so they can stay as normal holes. Needs to move over a bit but I'm just hanging it off an old hole in the firewall for photo shoot. That hole happens to be the old throttle cable hole, which makes it feel right! Will probably weld a threaded plate onto firewall for lower bolts, and just have captive nuts for the upper ones. I think lower holes disappear into a cavity somewhere. Added bonus is that the OG throttle stop/button thing is in roughly the right place, so that can be the NOS switch one day...
  9. Been trying to sort shifter out. Thanks to solidworks I have been able to have a good go at this. The pic below is for brothers one (which sits stick back from gbox a lot further) but mine looks pretty similar. I've designed it to use all the original commodore bushes to save hassle. Fingers crossed for it to not hit things in the car, I cbf modelling the tunnel and gbox.
  10. you’re the trendiest cunt I know. Also does your wagon skid? I’ve never seen a skid pic. I like skids
  11. How dare you assume a gender! I’d assume it’ll have a couple of white racing stripes down it’s pubis one day tho. Strange... I’ve been working full time from home but somehow been getting heaps done on car at night. I think the lack of stress means you’re still pumped at 5pm. This could be the new future, I’m almost into it. So I’ve been drinking too much and didn’t wear safety gogs which I regret but I’ve been under the car singing ‘clip it, clip it real good’. Sadly nobody is around and it just makes me a crazy person but regardless I got the lines clipped. Just need 2x tack welds on my Ali fuel pump sleeve and a couple of cable ties and the fuel system is done. also just noticed this on gbox. Only in murica do people need to be told that the bottom is the drain. I guess science isn’t their thing...
  12. Managed to pretty much finish fuel lines tonight. Small win - the -6 hose fits into the original clips on the tank. Need to P clip it under the car but I might be short of clips. Will have a crack. Thank fuck for luck, I had about 50mm to spare with the hose and I can’t get anymore for a month! I will buy nice end fittings for the tank end, stop that cunt of a hose cutting fingers off. Pics or it didn’t happen Anyone who’s worked on BMWs knows they loved using plastic everywhere. Get it gone! Was good 20 years ago but it gets brittle and snaps easily. Time for a schooner and a feed
  13. Busy busy Chucked on an M3 cross brace. As an engineer I have to question the value of it with such a good chassis - but like anyone from the 1940s would say; if the Germans thought it was good, it probably was.... On my non-M crossmember there aren’t any threaded holes for bolts so I need to use riv-nuts. Normally that would give me a hardon but for some reason I feel like there must be a better option. Regardless of my distaste I’ll be using them. Trying to find where air filter is going to sit. I’m a retard and bought the worlds biggest pod filter so it doesn’t fit anywhere. I can either buy a smaller poddy or move the washer bottle and put filter on drivers side. Smaller pod sounds a lot easier but I do like the idea of a giant filter. It’s a 6 fucking litre V8 after all! You can see the issues with clearance on passengers side, not only the radiator but also power steering pulley. drivers side looks like a better option aside from having to make a custom washer bottle kk if you’re reading this, we have to talk. I’m... well... I’m late...
  14. Been keeping busy while under the weather with the Coronavirus Finally my summit order showed up. I’m a bit embarrassed that I didn’t realise Japrace in Chch sells the AN fittings for pretty much the same price. Won’t be shopping American again, especially with the exchange rate as it is. Had to go into japrace to do my panic shopping. Got a fuel pressure gauge and some hose and fittings. Fuel line looks pretty tidy now. It’s -8 between the rails but only -6 from the pump. Just trying to save on fittings, the rails were -8 female. for anyone doing an engine swap (with EFI) the Corvette FPR/filter is a great little number! Mine fits in place of original massive filter under the bmw. Cheap too. Saves running a return from the rails. Started pulling bmw loom apart to see what I can biff. I want to retain a few sensors I think, so that dash works normally. Shouldn’t actually be too much of a mare. Will get commodore loom modified by someone way more special than me. Stocked up on piss for the apocalypse. I got fucking smashed last night on red wine and working from home today is not great. I reckon this lockdown is going to be one of the best things ever for productivity on oldschool. Will certainly be helpful for me. Sadly I’m still working full time (we build/fix hydro power stations) but I’m sure I’ll manage to sneak out to the garage every now and then! Stay safe out there cunts!
  15. I wanna have your babies KK
  16. Never heard that before. Stoked. Whatever I get I want to make sure it’s good quality from the start cos I CBF bogging. Pity the pandem kit is like 7k shipped
  17. It looks like the rocket bunny one. I’m a fan but won’t have the girth to fill it up I don’t reckon. Is he selling cheap? I don’t have Facebook cos I don’t wanna catch Coronavirus but I should follow that up. im looking at fitment lab atm
  18. Annnd finally it looks clean. Also found a cheap wide body kit from fitmentlab in UK so just need to convince them to ship to Nz.
  19. Cut the other side rear guard. Was way quicker but annoyingly I blew heaps more holes welding. Needed to get my chase on but got there in the end. Took the back shocks out and cleaned them cos they were still filthy from gravel bashing the night it caught fire. Need to do the fronts but at the same time I need to modify top hats to give me more positive camber. I had a shit few weeks being sick as fuck so decided to make myself feel better by putting it on the ground and seeing how it looks. Pushed it outside for a wash cos it was covered in grindr dust and then couldn’t get it up the drive. The bf is away till tomorrow night so it’ll have to chill outside. Whoops. Before that I did the standard tape the flares on thing to see how it might look. Not a fan of white on black haha. If you care, this shows roughly how much guard came off. Could have gone up another 20mm tbh but that would mean having the suspension effectively bottomed out at ride height so what’s the point really.
  20. Rears have 30mm spacers already which is max allowed. Fronts have longer lower control arms so pushed out about 25mm. Can’t go wider. still I like your thinking Bart!
  21. I don’t like them so it’s not really an option. Cool in the day but they look a bit dated now
  22. Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear. Im saying that if I use a 50mm flare I’m nervous it’ll rub, but if I go wider I’m nervous it’ll look stupid. So I wondered if anyone with experience with bolt ons could give me some intuition about how wide I should go. The goal for the arches is that they never rub no matter what the loading condition, even in lowest stanceworks knob setting.
  23. The attempts I’ve seen at pulling the guards out tend to ruin the body line pretty quickly so I won’t bother trying. I’m not artistic. Bolt ons are just for cert really - I’m planning on running felony form overfenders but I don’t want to spent $1800 on something that doesn’t help the car run. Still have a lot of wiring/tuning/drivetrain expenses. I have a theory that changing flare style won’t void cert. Maybe cletus would disagree. I did find a cool photo of an E36 with bolt ons but I don’t think mine would actually be that low or wide so I shouldn’t get my hopes up. There’s a possibility that I will fall in love with bolt ons and never get around to changing it if mine looks cool.
  24. So this almost seems like a repeat post/pics but it’s not Had to get the grinder back out tonight to keep hacking. Ended up going up 100mm above the original arch line. Seems giant but E36 rear arches are quite low standard so wide tyres will need a lot of clearance. The inner skin ended up having a spot welded second skin up that high so was stiff as fuck. Hard to beat into the shape I wanted but with enough sweat and hammers I got it to the point where I could weld it. Welding was hard on thin dirty steel with the mig but got it ok. Will underbody sealer it to stop rust and spray some fish oil into the inside. If anyone has experience with bolt on flares I’d love some input. How wide should the flares be based on this pic? Stancebois probably think the tyre should be flush with edge of flare but I think 10mm overhang would save rubbing. I’m just nervous it’ll look shit. Thoughts?
  25. So brakes have proved to be a cunt. Surprise. I’ll try and make that work later but it’s not exactly critical path at the moment. Built a sweet steel workbench And then got the Grinder out to attack rear quarter panels so I could eliminate rub later on. Took a few goes to get it high enough. May as well start conservative and keep going till you’re Bernie Sanders! I’ve taken spring and shock out to see where wheel can possible go, but it doesn’t have bump stops in it at the mo so not getting a great feel for it. Got too late and the Grinder was loud so had to stop. I might have taken enough off but won’t get a welder out until I’m sure. Anyway photos.
