KKtrips Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Yeah I could do but same dealio - a VN-VR V8 wagon diff is just about as hard to find as a VC-VL V8 wagon diff. Also the rims I have rub on the outer guards ever so slightly when boned out with some tig bittys in the back of the car. Having a wider track would be worse even without dem bewbs loading up the rear. Quote
KKtrips Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Nope - that's independent - mine is a live rear axle. Quote
CaMpylobacter Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 what is the weak point in the rear axle/diff? spider gears? cw&p? axle shafts? does it need banana skins mixed with my wees as fluid? 1 Quote
KKtrips Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 No idea but mainly want to change it to a 3.5 diff from my 3.9 I won't need a strong diff for my style of driving. Even better is changing it to 3.08:1 of the standard V8 diff. Quote
snapper Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Nope - that's independent - mine is a live rear axle. d'oh! yes have been reading/re-acquainting myself with this oz-iron. sorry for bone-head suggestion. Quote
CaMpylobacter Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 will you need it that long-legged? aren't most of the auto boxes that run fee ates @ 3.08:1 essentially a 1:1 top and you'll be running an overdrive (I assume ~0.85) top gear? Wonder if you can get Detroit style lockers for them for good tin if it's shit like the spider gears being the weak point. Would probably just break axles then, I guess. hah. Quote
KKtrips Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 I just like long legged cos I love the sound of driving a torquey cars at 2000rpm while doing the open road speed limit. Don't worry the 3.5 will be fine and plentiful to replace if I break it but if I found a 3.08:1 at the right price and had money spare then I'd snap it up. Quote
KKtrips Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Dubbya Beeeee mayte.. Straya fuck yeah! 1 Quote
xsspeed Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 yeah figured it would still be WB's, seemed to recall there was no early V# ute but thought I'd check, anything from their live axle cross over? Quote
KKtrips Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 never checked TBH but a WB is pretty damn wide compared to a VH. WB is 1887mm vs VH 1722mm Quote
xsspeed Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I am pretty certain the HX/HZ utes all had lsd's even in the 6 cyl models (my prem does and it had a 202) so would expect the WB to follow suit Most wagons in a series seem to be a throw back to previous gen with ford and holden, I guess the difference here could be the Opel vs strayacunt WB influence - though would be interesting if drivetrain is more common than just the motor Quote
AllTorque Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Dem wb lsds arn't the strongest. They use a cone clutch. I blew up 3 of them in my old ute with a 350. Ended up welded that rear end up. skids on. 1 Quote
mikuni Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Are the sedan diffs easier to get hold of? Surely wouldn't be a major to change the shock mounts on a sedan diff or just upright the shocks and run them short? Quote
KKtrips Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 I believe there is a few changes but they are most probably not all that hard to take care of but it will be in the future thing if I keep it after the ol USA trip etc. Quote
kyteler Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Not all utes had skidders, Steve. Or.. maybe my brother's one had been swapped out. Regardless. Get a 2.60 Quote
kyteler Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 With a wheezy ol' 308? AAAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAA ...mostly for 800rpm highway cruising. 1 Quote
