kpr
individual filters (that will fit in the space) dont have enough surface area. airbox or filter that covers all 4 will work alot better. i'd roll open throttles or a 4k before running filter socks or small pods
Steelies
haha roger that!
yoeddynz
Welding looks ace to me. My last attempt at alloy was messy as..then I realised the alloy sheet was heavily anodised. Man you are going to love this car on the hill..perfwct for it.

Steelies
got me wof 12s being swapped down the road and will get on to the 13s once car has started. two are apart, cleaned up and ready for jigging and metal hot glue. think you might see me trying the old last minute 'Roger, pwetty pweeaase' tire delivery and see how my luck goes!
peteretep
just because I saw it being talked about here, what do you guys reckon about unifilters being used on individual throttles/carbs. I would like to fit them for the south island trip http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/air-filters/auction-696870614.htm
Beaver
The interwebs says they are shit I think, not enough surface area and a shit load of flow restriction. Although unless you are looking for max gains (like fels and Alistair) then I say nothing wrong with them. Saves sucking shit int he motor etc
peteretep
I know/have actually seen lots of race cars use them compared to the small pod filters and I can fit the 'longer' 150mm filters
Steelies
are ya chasin stray ponies? see kpr's comment up this page.
peteretep
yeah I saw it, I asked because I have actually seen plenty of them on race cars, but never those tiny pod filters also, I dont have many ponies to begin with, so probably cant lose much? /im just gonna buy them and see what happens
Spencer
Yea but how many people with those race cars know what's up? you won't see a serious racecar without a airbox its HP down the drain. Its up to you how much you care, you will definitely be throwing some beans away.
peteretep
I'll take the hit for the benefit of a longer lasting engine, im already at 105psi on cyl 1 and probably down on power as it is
Spencer
YEa on a old car/motor I'd happily fun some shitty filter socks as they look better than a monster airbox and will do the job. If it was something serious you would throw them in the bin.
Steelies
i'm guessing running mesh and living by the sea for over a year probably didnt help mine all that much.
kpr
to me it seems kind of pointless running some sweet itb's or carbs. if you are going to go ahead and choke it with some socks. have hated on them after seeing a 1uz with itb's, gain alot of power from just removing filter socks. Steelies
a lot of the time we're just putting these carbs on for stz. started the motor last night, stoked. fired up second crank with choke. sounds not too dissimilar to before, some ticking noise and lots of top quality blow by - or whatever causes all the blowing out the breather. i put another breather/filler cam cover on as someone had said it aids ventilation but nothing comes out that breather. catch can time now. cant wait to finish rust and drive it. still not charging though, grr! alternator over charged a year ago, new regulator still bung, got it re built. rotor was fucked, new bits etc work for a little then stopped charging. i've tried old and new sense wire, running 12v straight to the IGN terminal from batt, checked earth. still runinng on batt, ie 12.3V at battery and charge terminal while running. unplugged light wire, light goes out. still at 12.3V odd while running new alternator time? Steelies
can i run a 20V alt? not using the pug, just spade connectors.
peteretep
have you checked the quality of your multimeter? also, one last thing on the filters. I really like the idea of not fitting filters to my motor for max power and noise, but after 3 years having dropped 40+ psi on a couple cylinders has changed my mind somewhat as to what is important
Steelies
ah good yep i'll take a better meter home tonight. just got alternator tested, it's working fine. will try some stuff in the car.
