shizzl
basically if look under a rotor with the sump off it looks like a barrel, where the front cover mounts to the front end plate has a cavity, thats where the oil pump is,its driven off a chain drive from the eccentric shaft(crank for pistons),theres also a worm drive gear on the end that the dizzy drives off.thats it...the oil pickup mounts to the base of the front end plate.. the only oil that goes into the sump comes from the oil cooler hoes off the passenger side,it dumps into the side of the front cover,....so only the oil pump and dizzy drive gets lubed in there pretty much.. if you look through the pics on my projects page you may see a pic off the bottom of the engine without the sum on it... and yeah i was thinking of using steel tube for the dipstick not rubber.. steels cheaper and easier to work with..thats if i had a welder grrr
shizzl
i figured out how ill do the dip stick,i took the dipstick and tube off the escort 1300 motor, and ill just weld a 10mm pipe into the sump to fit the escort tube onto...bingo.. ive also decided to redo the engine mounts cos i just cant stand the look of them.. plus the way im doing them now will allow the use of a 12a or 13b later on if needed.. will do most of the new mount design this weekend, and hopefully mount the fuel pump. i come up with a cool idea for seat mounts for the racetchs aswell cos mounting them to the escort rails made them sit too high.. i wanna be below the door like a mofo gangster yo... shizzl
well after the effort and success i put in yesterday i thought id have a go at arc welding my gearbox tunnel.. not recommended but it got most of it done. after about 2million spot welds, gay arc eyes now. 16 blow thrus..grrr. ive got the main part of the tunnel welded to the firewall, and just tacked the sides on. but ended up cutting a new hole for the starter to fit in. spot welding with an arc welder is not good for it,and its slow and sucks arse. but im getting there and i dont need to buy a mig FTW.. i wonder if i can get a good enough arc weld going to do the sump aswell? think i might just tack it together and get a panelbeater to finish it off. d.p.n.s
yeh bro arc is hard on thin steel. the best thing ive found for arc eye ... if you have an optrcs cut wash your eyes with milk it puts a layer on your eyes so it dont feel ilke they are being sanded with 80grit. cars coming along mate

shizzl
bit by bit at the moment...no set date to get it going ae.. all i need to do to have it fired up is finish off the sump, and oil pickup. find a long oil cooler hose.fill it with oil, water etc,run fuel lines and mount fuel pump. maybe make an exhaust pretty damn close really ae.. just little things that take time.. eskynut
Had a quick look at your pics of fuel system. You might have to watch out the pump doesn't scavenge from the return line causing the engine to lean out. You may have to put the return back into tank. What about putting a small pipe into filler hose below breather? Just a thought. Looking good though.
shizzl
filler neck is rubber, and about 50mm long.. looking into other options for it after your thoughts.. also my rx2 radiator turned up today!!! yeah! its a mint fit. will cut off the factory radiator mount thing escorts have and sit the radiator flush against the front, with the oil cooler behing the radiator. its also came with a elec fan and 2 flexi type hoses...sweet. saved on having to buy those.. designed myself a new sump today, similar shape, but added another 675ml of capacity, bumping it to 4.1L by my calcs.. will cut it out and bend it up tomorrow.. i may even just make up a template and print out the design plans etc and get a panel beater to make it..their fault if it gets warped from heat or they fuck it up i just saw a pic of the escort when i got it(still driveable) gave me a bit of inspiration to finish it to see it totally boned out.. shizzl
theres actually not alot of stuff i need to do to get it going.. SUMP DRIVESHAFT EXHAUST WIRING just to get it started...so fairly close..was even thinking of putting the stock sump on with the xmember out, connect oil cooler and radiator,do the wiring, put the un-modded headers on just to see if itll run... then its onto the little things: relocate battery to the boot. finish the seat mounts. get speedo cable made. get some guages.not a must yet though. get it low. finish of the tunnel. make it look purty.. lowlancer
Those terminals look like they have something to do with fuel pressure gauge maybe? Also, I'm pretty sure you can't just run fuel line through your car like that, well legally. Is this going to be certed etc?
durty
thry probably havent heard of certs etc on the west coast. probly still have carless days/ cousin marriages etc. lol

Is this going to be certed etc? How do you think rally cars get on? They all have the fuel lines running through interior. Only thing is it has to be stainless braided line or pipe like brake line stuff - no joins on inside either.
