Engine Running On

It happened again the other day, god damm it sounds horrible.

if ti runs on that bad its better for your engine jus to put it in 4th and stall it

Are you able to expand on how to do this safely without launching forward?

Anyone else no anything about it? I cant afford to pay anyone to tune my engine professionally, I did a few checks and it seems to be all tuned properly :?

Running 96 and it only ever does it on the odd ocassion, I think it is running to hot sometimes, in the process of sorting out an electric radiator fan. Its not the choke cause I got rid of that.

Is it caused by the engine running too hot?

Well while I'm driving the engine temp is fine, its just when I turn it off, and then start it up again after like 5 mins or like waiting in traffic. The temp gauge goes right up to the top and then creeps down to normal as I get moving.

I'm 99% sure my ignition timing is set correctly :?

when you turn your car off and turn it back on the temp always goes right up cos the cooling system is not on when the car is off and the heat goes all through the engine .. as long as it cools down as you start the car up and run it a while

My mates rolla was doing that. it was funny . one day we timed it and it went for over five minutes. then we were hungry so we stuck it in gear.

sorry i was no help

sometimes after running is caused by a build up of carbon on the valves or pistons it gets so hot during driving that when you turn the engine off the carbon is still red hot and is hot enough to ignite the fuel still being delivered by the carb the more it runs on the more fuel and so on and so on. check your timing, slow the idle down slightly if its a bit fast or run some fuel system cleaner thru it some have deturgants that clean off carbon deposits just read the container to see which ones have the cleaner. hope that helps dave

Cheers Dave, thats exactly what my old man said. But no I dont think its that as I scraped all the carbon off the pistons when I had them out, I doubt that more would have built up yet.

Yea the temp goes down real quick but I think I'll invest in a fan to keep it down even more.

I have had three ford motors in my escort now, the 1300 the 1600 and the 2000. They have all done it when not tuned right and the 2000 still does it (but that motor is fuct) I just wound the idle down slightly and retarded the timming a bit. Seemed to fix it with the 1300 and 1600. the 2l i dnt give a fuk bout so i just stall it. And yeah, it only does it when its hot in mine too. I always just turn it of just before you want to stop and roll to a stop. that way it just sounds normalish.

sounds like your engines pre igniting. when you scraped your pistons were the starting to melt. did you have a look at the bottoms of your valves and see if they were still round. Get a new engine. a v8

Im Probably wrong but isnt this called dieseling when it runs on?

I found a little thing on my parts car called an anti dieseling solenoid which is a valve which stays closed while the motors running but opens when you switch it off to stop it stuttering and choking etc. its sitting in my shed somewhere, i could find it for you if you were keen.

Did you install or swap alternators?

if you swap an external regulated alternator with internal one and did not remove the external regulator this may result similar to you problem.

or

You may have the wire from the positive on the alternator directly feeding to the coil positive.

or

faulty ignition switch

or

faulty ignition barrel

my best bet is the regulator thing

let us know when you fix the problem

good luck

Rob
