  1. Today
  2. Have put a 1gzfe in ms55 and doesn't fit very well. Not saying it can't be done but hits steering box and drag link arm. Also about your chassis numbers for some unknown reason on all my old crowns the number on the chassis rail and body doesn't match.not much help bit seems to be the way they are
  3. I’ve been to the Mt Smart one in summer before and it was really good, but don’t know about the Showgrounds in winter on a long weekend..
  4. Perfect for dispatching horse theives too!
  5. I'm down to less than half a litre of petrol now, but no one got killed, nothing got broken.... and the water tower got driven up the hill and is bolted into its stainless steel stirrups. It was pretty dark by then so it's a shit photo. More to do soon to brace it all, but she's up! There's only been two of us on this job. We've done OK TBH.
  6. I even tested it in my Yellow MX5 and same behaviour so it's definitely nuked something on the ecu or break out board. Annoying but I guess it's not like I nuked a $2k ECU and it seems to be mostly functioning.
  7. Hey thanks heaps for the info, super helpful. I got the Fuel pump and fan working with a ULN2003a chip, before I got it working I thought the ULN was faulty on pin 45 because at the time I couldn't get it to prime. I was checking things with a multimeter and saw that the Arduino was sending 5v to pin 45, but still no pump. Checking some more and I managed to slip and short the 12v and Ground then the magic smoke came out of the adaptor board. Now the radiator fan comes on permanently. Yay fun... removed the speedino board and adapter then found that it looks like it had nuked the trace (on the adapter break out board) from 12v to the pin on the ECU connector (pin 1A from memory). Fck... So I soldered a wire to bridge the connection with the dead trace, doesn't look like it connects to anything else. Now it's back to the rad fan being controlled properly, i.e. I can change Tunerstudio to trigger it at say 10deg C so it comes on on demand. But now I don't see any RPM and no LED's to show ign or injector activity. Fck sake. Had a close look at the Speeduino board and adapter. All looks fine, checked for burnt components, all look ok. Checked for continuity of resistors etc. Checked for continuity for the Crank and Cam signal wires. Put Tunerstudio into the hardware test setting, I can now trigger injectors and ign with the board LED's firing and the I can hear them in the engine bay. So that's good.... but what is wrong? I assume I am still not getting crank or cam signal. Possibly next I'll try bypass the breakout board and IDC cable for the crank and cam signal. Or maybe bypass the whole board and wire directly to the ECU plug. Cars are fun. EDIT: so I have MAP, TPS, intake temp, water temp, working fuel pump and rad fan. But no RPM, no injector pulse. Maybe a mosfet is fried or still a trace issue.
  8. Spent this afternoon getting sweaty on my back. All this working on my own car without the workshops hoists is reminding me why i stopped doing homejobs..... But got the trans out, exhaust off, bonnet and hinges off (bloody heavy for a solo job), battery tray and wipers out too. Engine is unplugged ready to lift... but some unnamed genius removed the back screen last weekend so will pull motor tomorrow.
  9. 14x8 ss Cragars are on and I’m loving it - I e only tried to upload this image 20x and it failed due to size….now it just loads. oh well, here it is i sold the ‘spinners’ as I prefer the new centre caps - makes the dish pop that much more IMHO Oh, if anyone is coming to cars and coffee tomorrow at ASB Showgrounds Greenlane, come say hi.
  10. My car is at the injection specialists, so I’ll give it a miss.
  11. Does anyone have any experience with dash repairers down this way? Who's the best etc. Cheers..
  12. I’m going, if anyone is interested in meeting up and cruising in let me know. I’ll be coming from south.
  13. Yesterday
  14. Having to wait a while while the car is in compliance as they are trying to sort out my VIN number as the car has 2 different numbers. Tag states MS55 which is a 4 door and the chassis number is MS53 which is the wagon. So I bought some new door rubbers the other day while waiting for shit to get sorted.
  15. I remember seeing this is 1999/2000 at the Nelson Car show at Richmond raceway - Mind was blown then - so epic to see its still about
  16. Hoa4ders worst nightmare! i had to scrap 10x of those 13x5.5 steelies when i emptied my storage unit. Could 'only' fit 3 sets of rims in the van... Ill take some pics of what ive still got. I need to sell some anyway for hq parts money
  17. Okay, so the 4th June will mark one year since I got the Thames back on the road and we have clocked up just over 2,000 km of happy travels. Time sure flys when you are having fun. With nothing really exciting to report maintenance wise, I thought I'd give the Thames a birthday by cleaning up his little nest which was looking decidedly shabby. Crammed with leftover parts, the mock up 4Y engine and other crap accumulated during the build. I've been looking past this mess for way too long so time to do something about it. Before photo: I'm a hoarder of note so the first step was to find a new home for all of this crap. Opened up the roller door on my back shed for a look see and the answer was a definite no. Yikes, I really need to sort that shed out. It looks like something out of American Pickers except there aren't any treasures, just piles of junk that I can't bear to part with. So, with that option ruled out I figured another shed was needed. Like they say a man can never have too many sheds. We bought a little kit set and after boxing up a slab I got in a mini load of concrete and Mrs Flash and I did this: And then we waited for our poor old backs to recover before we did this: And then I spent a week moving all the gardening related items from the big shed into the little shed which freed up some space. After clearing all of the crap out of the Thames nest I then built a little wall unit to store everyday things like tools, washing buckets, trolley jacks, etc. I made the wall unit out of some old timber left over from our old kitchen and then disguised my shoddy carpentry with a good few coats of satin black. Gave the walls a lick of fresh paint and it ended up looking like this: Brought out my little collection of cartoon car sculptures and a few nautical themed bits and pieces that have been packed away for years, just to give the place a bit of bling. I had to buy a set of hinges for the tall cupboard doors and a pack of 400 wood screws, but apart from that everything else was leftovers. Mrs Flash has been spending a good bit of time in her art studio this year and created a whole heap of artwork for the garage, so after freshening up the paint we were able to create a feature wall. There are still a few gaps that Mrs Flash will fill over time, but all in all I'm really chuffed with the look. Next step is to epoxy coat the floor but I need to sort out a pesky rear main seal leak on the Mustang before we do that. Needless to say, the Thames van is very happy with his new nest. Thanks for looking.
  18. I've been chipping away at this thing a fair bit lately but I don't have a whole lot to show. It seems to be 1 step forward, 3 steps backwards. Ages ago I changed the gearbox shifter position. I need the gear sick to be more rearward. I bought a longer selector shaft and the corresponding housing plate from a gearbox outfit in the North Island (There are about 8 different shifter positions for the W boxes). This is the original I had to take the gearbox apart to change the shaft over, which I was a little worried about doing. I got it all back together and it turns out the turkey sent me miss matched parts. The shaft was too long for the housing. The gearbox is in neutral here, so the little circle should be in the center of the hole. So it won't select half the gears... I tried to get them to send me the correct housing to suit but he had a sob story about his company being evicted from their building and he doesn't have access to the parts. That was months ago, and I just continued and put the gearbox in as I can fit the correct housing when i find one while the gearbox is in the car. After quite a while of looking I found the next size up housing (so I thought). I put it in but it was 2 sizes bigger, and I had a similar problem. So I decided to just extended the shaft by 10mm so that it works with the new housing (the new housing fits with the hole in the tunnel perfectly). I made a wee jig and extended it. Since I had to strip the gearbox again I figured I'd treat it to some love and gave new bearings and replaced a suspect 5th gear. Now I finally think I have the gearbox side of things sorted. The last few days I've been sorting out the fuel system. With this carb set up I have read they are prone to vapor locking with the heat build up, the solution seems to be having a return to tank line to help with cooling. I made up a hard fuel return line, plumbed in a pump near the tank, and this sweet looking regulator/filter. I'll get the gearbox back in soon with any luck, then install the radiator and shouldn't be too far from kicking her in the guts.
  19. I found specs for my injectors I bought them 3 years ago and long lost the paperwork. Punched all that in reflashed it now it's quite bit happier flat spot is almost gone when you go around corners previously it would stall if you didn't heel toe it. I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing with the most expensive parts I've ever bought. Glad it's an engine I don't really care about.
  20. Took the bmw headlight off and checked to see if the full fearing would still fit on. Safe to say it does. A few broken parts on it, so I'll probably fix them up and swap it out as I please.
  21. It's both good and bad situation to be this far along, I've had to change so many things to make it work I can't go back 1 step at a time to find it...... the whole inlet manifold and wiring has been rotated 180 degrees. I think it's probably a control issue possibly a wire is transposed somewhere I have nothing masked in ecu and no DTCS Coming up so it's something small. It only has 4psi at moment and puts you back in seat can't wait to turn it up.
  22. Yeah I've seen a few gummed up IACVs in my time. Could just be something as simple as that. Either way, it's exciting that you're down to troubleshooting this level of problem, as it means all of the bigger problems are solved. It's a good place to be! Exciting
  23. I just saw this in the flesh at a car meet, man it has some impressive shit going on, there is way more happening now than when the thread was last updated. He has a lol 80s looking multi button remote with extendable antenna, the results of the button podging made me laugh in surprise.
  24. Well I've been driving this round a wee bit since getting it's warrant. It's running pretty good. Great for throwing the bike on. Been dialing in a few small things that have been bugging me. Just small oil leaks , rattles and the like. With all the new suspension, steering and tires it actually drives pretty bloody nice. Next on the to do list is a new exhaust
