chris r Posted April 16 Author Posted April 16 Scored some wheels for the wagon off trademe, 18s but better offset than what I have so I'll test fit and if they don't rub I'll run them. The sellers name and address seemed familiar and I realised it was the same guy who @Raizer bought his au from so it's a small world etc. 1 Quote
Raizer Posted April 16 Posted April 16 And it explains why mine has perfect condition wheels with facelift centre caps that came out a couple months after my car was built and also why it had ancient JDM tyres with decent tread but fuck loads of dry rot/cracking when I got it lol. *Turned out the wheels @chris r has bought are the original factory wheels off my car, the old owner imported a like new set from Japan before selling it, cause the originals had a little kerbing. chris r Posted April 16 Author Posted April 16 Retorqued the injectors and swapped cyl 1 & 2 around as cyl 1 was doing a whole lot of nothing. It's still doing a whole lot of nothing I thiyht maybe some schmutz had got into the intake port but doesn't appear to be the case. It appears cylinder 1 is not doing combustion stuff. 2&3 have a slight change when injector lines are cracked 4&5 seem to be doing most of the work /doing what they should I'm getting pretty fast at taking the injector lines and intake off this bloody thing Will fire it up again in the morning and see if any compression is escaping out the intake valves or the lifters aren't doing lifter things. Seems weird that it was running fairly smoothly and now it's being dumb after having injectors serviced. I'm wondering if cyl 1 is being a dick and blowing stuff back into the intake which is affecting 2&3 The intake valve on 1 seems to be sealed (cam lobe up) I put a bit of fuel in and it didn't immediately leak out 2 Quote
johnnyfive Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Surely a 100% misfire like that can only be a sad/blocked injector on #1. You only had the intake off right? I feel like you'd notice the REH RUUH RUUH RUUH RUUH REH RUUH RUUH RUUH RUUH REH of 1/5 lungs being leaky. Got a diesel compression tester you can borrow? Or swap an injector to a different hole and see if the middle follows Quote

Cleaned intake and reassembled everything Swapped injector 1 & 2 and fault still on one so not the injector No diesel compression tester 2 Quote
chris r Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 The musso has decided since I removed its external egr it'll create its own internal egr No 1 seems to be both intaking and exhausting Pulled valve cover off to see what's going on and just got more confused Far right lobe is no 1 exh. Then no 1 intake and so on It looks like the engine bucks when the exhaust lobe on no 1 hits the lifter. My first thought was the exhaust valve isn't opening and the combustion is still happening and escaping when intake valve opens. But then the chuff out of the intake seems to happen after the intake valve is closed. Could both lifters be pumping up or not draining and fucking with the valve timing? Has a valve shit the bed and bent? But if I had a bent valve surely there would be more mechanical sadness noises The valve is a bit grubby but from what I can see there is no cracks. It also holds fluid when it's closed and I fill it My alix Borescope wasn't much good for looking either Quote
tortron Posted April 17 Posted April 17 nah my honda had a just audible tick with 3 very slightly bent valves. you probably wouldnt hear it over the swiss watch you have there. you could presurise the exhaust or inlet or sump and listen for the hiss. i only confirmed it after a leakdown test and listening at the ports 1 Quote
chris r Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 I'm trying to work out how it'd bend a valve from sitting for a week while injectors get serviced Quote
tortron Posted April 17 Posted April 17 that was the exact moment the belt exceeded recommended intervals probably it was always like that and now its noticeable as everything else is working? 1 Quote
Raizer Posted April 17 Posted April 17 8 minutes ago, tortron said: probably it was always like that and now its noticeable as everything else is working? Which would also explain the original "down on power" complaint from the old owner. 1 Quote
chris r Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 It was running really smooth and felt evenly down on power if that makes sense. It wasn't bucking or misfiring Quote
chris r Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 On a less confusing happier note the cls wheels fit and seem to clear everything The black amg wheels aren't the right offset(et48 or something from memory) and I don't really like them Cls wheels are the same 18x8.5 but are et18 Much better /more flush now. Will swap the wheels over next week and get new tyres 3 Quote
Beaver Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Have you touched the pump? Have you got the injector lines in the right order? Quote
chris r Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Haven't touched the pump at all timing wise. Only 1/3 a turn on the alda or boost aneroid but that's just more fuel under boost which is isn't seeing at idle. The injector lines can only fit one way. I also kept 1 2 & 3 clipped together. 4 I labelled but again it only fits in one place. 1 Quote
mjrstar Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Did the glow plugs come out complete? Ie not missing my bits that fell off into the combustion chamber? Quote
chris r Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Glows came out complete and didn't look caked in carbon shit so I doubt something fell in/off them Quote
mjrstar Posted April 17 Posted April 17 They look mint, sometimes the ends splay open when they shit the bed. Quote
chris r Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Yeah I've heard /seem them splay open and get stuck or come out in pieces. Was more preventative maintenance and a while I I had access to them it was easy to change deal Quote
mjrstar Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Looks like it's trying to be an external combustion engine, but there is still some compression Can you humor us all by swapping back in one of the old glow plugs. Maybe the new one is dead? Quote
