Popular Post ThePog
Yea so I decided to schnorkel the inlet as I changed the filter and it had obviously been sucking up a certain amount of soot from the exhaust as they are in closeish proximity. I nicked a bit of 3.5" pipe and got to work. Pics will tell all the story that needs to be told. Need to find a proper silicone joiner and the correct size of clamps but it works well, doesn't project out past the existing stuff and makes it submarine capable. I had run out of black zinc so put some grey poo on the upper, this is now all black zinc as it should be. I also fitted a solar/alternator charger for the aux battery, this works well. I think I probably need to add another solid mount to the exhaust, there is a resonance there at high idle speed which annoys me. But otherwise I am knocking on 15,000kms, all is minty mint.

Popular Post cletus
Sorry to say but I think you've done your snorkel incorrectly It's meant to be on the a pillar so it blocks your vision, faces your ear so all the turbo noises go directly into your brain , and you're meant to weld a laser cut logo into the end of the 4" pipe so it blocks off most of the flow 14 3

yoeddynz
If you add an electric motor to that rear passenger side window you could wind it down from the comfort of your seat and listen to the doort noises as you hoon through Wakefield at 95kph whilst stuffing a Wakefield pie into your gob and making farmer spec gang signs at Brent in his gumboots, standing next to his jacked up LN hilux with the dog box (filled with another load of dogs about to get lost) parked in the layby talking to Tracy, from the local CRT, in her cowshit covered carib. 3
ThePog
You have no idea just how accurate this picture is. Apart from electric windows, you can get to fuck with that.

Also fyi, I found an accessory for the Mosa in the container the other day. It is a DC DC converter, brings the output to 220v dc. It came with the unit originally it looks like. I don't know how that would be useful to anyone, but you are welcome to it if you want it.

Popular Post ThePog
Some crane action for yiz; That's a massive Mikuni bus heater that I bought to heat the lined and insulated bit of the shed. It cost $100, still had half a tank of diesel in it, they are big tanks so I am probably at a net profit.
Popular Post ThePog
Hit 15000km, yay. I have been fucking around with little things, ie I purchased a synthetic rope for the winch, it's now 10kg lighter... The catch can was weird, after a month or so it started leaking oil, I cleaned it up, a month later the same. So last weekend I cut it open to see what was up and somehow I had put it together without any packing...? What a dipshit. So I sorted that. The other day the power went out for maintenance for the whole day. My laptop lasted a couple of hours but I was pondering how I could work off grid. Then I realised all I needed to do was put an inverter on the aux battery in the truck, it's 96ah deep cycle and charged with solar so should run a laptop and a screen no probs. A bit of TM bashing and we had this going on; Sorted. Plus I figured a backup to the power backup was in order, and I won this beasty off TM for $61, it actually runs mint; You can never have too much old shit. Also you might have heard about the rain in the area over the last couple of days....

I unspooled it again to check it hadnt melted and it was fine, so i re did it and took my time. A bit weird. I might flick this on and buy another anyway as it probably a bit small. Popular Post ThePog
Yea so I wasn't amazingly happy with the oil pressure on the new engine. I took it down to chch on a hot day and while the light never came on the gauge would sometimes be showing nothing at lower revs. The safari gauges are a bit shit but it wasn't confidence inspiring as you can imagine. I started to think about putting a new turbo oil pump in there as they have higher flow etc, and while looking at threads about it it came to light that one reason for low pressure was if you forgot to put the timing gear oil squirter in, it would just pump the oil out that hole. For the life of me I could not remember putting that fucking thing back in when i put the engine together. There was also potentially an issue with the orientation of the idler gear in its bearing hole. Sigh, time to dismantle much shit. It wasnt too bad really, just time consuming. There was a lot of shit stacked on the deck by the time I got to this stage. Turns out I had put the squirter in so that was kindof good and bad. I put the new pump in and got it back together without too much drama except for trying to find a water pump and thermostat gasket; *Rings Repco like a fucking stupid cunt* Whats the reg number there mate? Its a custom vehicle, the reg wont tell you anything. *under his breath but clearly audible* Ah for fucks sake. What do you want then? *Me now unhappy and sounding prissy* Water pump gasket Na Thermostat gasket Na Oil pump seal Na I hang up before he could say any more and make it worse, then punched my balls repeatedly as this is more fun than that conversation was. So I remembered i had some gasket paper and made what i needed, and found a good oil pump seal on the old engine. When I put it back together the pressure was significantly better but not where i thought it should be, so I went to Supercheap and bought a mechanical oil pressure pump. And it turns out that the factory gauge is kindof ok in the mid range but is way inaccurate down low, and the pressures i am seeing are pretty much where they need to be. Should have done that first I guess. All is well now and the old girl is back in service, knocking on 20kms now. 31
fuel
I find with the likes of Repco or Supercheap where they ask for rego I just go find the part numbers of what I need and give them that right away, or I guess keep the rego of a "donor" handy haha

The average min wage pimple faced worker has no incentive to go above and beyond finding parts that don’t come up with a rego. The exception is out there but it’s not the norm unfortunately. Even just search the vehicle you want parts for on Trademe and steal that rego.
