AllTorque
Is it supposed to be tapping like that?
HighLUX
I was wondering why it was tappy too but everything seemed fine and it turned over happily. It was was the same when it was 50cc. Bottom end feels fine
AllTorque
If it’s not new it should be ok I guess. Maybe check the valve clearances
HighLUX
Reeds tapping as they open and close Edit:on closer inspection it looks like the piston was just touching the head, thought id been a retard and put the piston in wrong way round so 180'd it and same problem
HighLUX
Luckily iv got a spare piston. Head has a small mark but its still fine Bit confused as to whats gone wrong. Base gasket I made is same 0.8mm that came with the kit and the piston is installed right 2
Raizer
That's fucked up, it's stated as designed to retain the factory head!
HighLUX
Im confused as fuck too. No instructions came with the kit and iv looked online for a PDF but nada. Thinking about making a gasket out of 1.5mm paper and seeing if that lifts it enough to not touch otherwise im all out of ideas
Yowzer
Can you clearance the head? Or will that mess with airflow
HighLUX
That is the plan for tomorrow morning. While looking for install instructions I found Malossi also do a 70cc kit and their official website has an install PDF. Interestingly it states that if using the stock head "using a scraper, hone down a little the sharp edge formed by the combustion chamber and the top of the cylinder. Take care not to remove too much material because otherwise this will alter the compression ratio." 3
M.H.
Squish band is quite important on 2 strokes http://www.southwestairsports.com/ppgtechinfo/top80/hrservicenotes/squish/squish.htm

HighLUX
Not sure yet will wait for proper tune before doing a speed run. By the angry dirtbike brap it makes now im gunna close to 100kph
HighLUX
Malossi do a 15 tooth front sprocket which I might order to help top end speed. It wants to rev off the tacho now where as before it would get to about 8K before running out of puff
Popular Post HighLUX
Alot more grinding required than pictured above but now no tappy tappy and much braaaapy braaaaapy Need to refit the airbox and modify a silicone elbow to join the 2 together plus open out the feed into the airbox so it can breath a bit better then it just needs a few kms put on it and off to get tuned at @MopedNZ work next week sometime. 9
Raizer
That's sounds lean man, revs are hanging. Big jet, get it stupid rich then swap down till closer. You really don't want to seize a Nikasil cylinder, game over if you do.

Popular Post HighLUX
Bunged the biggest jet I had in this today and refitted the factory air box with a 35mm silicon elbow to join it to the carb. Opened out the pre filter intake as its only a piddly 16mm wide then took it for a run in ride as its booked in to get tuned with @MopedNZ on Tuesday. It was faster and alot more torque but once it got to around 55kph it would cough and bog. Did a bit of road side tuning by lifting the main needle to see if it helped the situation but still no change. Did a bit more riding and a bit more thinking, it has @Raizer special aftermarket CDI but for some reason it seemed like it was hitting a speed cut still. The sweet factory tool kit is still complete tucked under the seat so stopped roadside again and got the front headlight/fairing off then traced the sub loom to the dash cluster and unplugged it. Got back on the road and WOW it was straight away more peppy even up to the previous record of 55. Out on to a straighter bit of road on a slight downhill and I got to somewhere just over 90 on the needle before I backed off, down onto the flat and it was happy at 80kph. There must some other form of speed cut triggered off the speedo needle, will take the back off the dash when I get a chance and trace wires to see whats up then install a limiter switch for those "it only does 55kph, honest" moments. Pretty bloody exited to see how it goes with a proper tune and bigger front sprocket, its super loud at speed too gunna need to get a supply of ear plugs for Eastcapescapade
