Ash Kelly barr
Not sure if this should go in general or tech sorry. I need to find a machine shop that can rethread my struts So. Have macpherson strut up front. Have changed and cut spring. Is no longer captive but sits fine and isn't bottoming out. Called a couple places about getting the top shaft rethreaded shorter and all of them say they you bring them in and then they send them away. Can anyone tell me who they would be out sourcing them to so I can take them to them directly? Seems stupid and more costly to drop them to some who's just going to drop them to someone else Cheers in advance

flyingbrick
Just walk into a few machine shops and get a few quotes. It's a very simple process that any engineering shop with a lathe and mill can do.

RUNAMUCK
Anyone with a half decent lathe and a decent amount of clues should be able to do it.
OSM Garage
The Shock Shop Penrose i have found very useful in the past: http://www.shockshop.co.nz/shop-locator/shockshop-penrose/ +1 for the shock shop Penrose. The guys there are very helpful. They cleaned the threads on my shock inserts for free so I made sure I took my car there for a wheel alignment. Or Autolign can. Thats probably where people send them to.
Seedy Al
Yeah basicly any engineer should be able to address this Anyway what sort of car? You have a carina or something correct? Just buy shorter shocks out of an st161 or ae-92, which ever ones have the same diameter as yours
Ash Kelly barr
Cheers guys. Yeah I thought it can't be that hard. Will call autoline Monday as there close to me. And post price/outcome
drftnmaz
+1 for the shock shop Penrose. The guys there are very helpful. They cleaned the threads on my shock inserts for free so I made sure I took my car there for a wheel alignment. Or Autolign can. Thats probably where people send them to. I've had bad dealings with them before, got shocks shortened there, went to pickup and they had assembled and tried to charge me for assembly, had doubled the price, so make sure you tell them you only want shortening not extra labour changes haha, but yea go straight to a machine shop not a retailer
