Rookie
You realise that swapping parts is the most expensive way to diagnose a problem aye?
ep82-toy-let
You realise that swapping parts is the most expensive way to diagnose a problem aye? so how else am I supposed to find out whats rong mate? please amuse me? I don't have money to pay 4 a mechanic plus parts, have gone over entire car looking for leaks, etc, have run a diagnostic on it with no codes showing... so please, if you have some idea I havnt already tried id love to hear it
Rookie
You can test if a sensor works with a multimeter or sillyscope depending on what it is.
ep82-toy-let
You can test if a sensor works with a multimeter or sillyscope depending on what it is. I know that, but it cost me less time to just swap it for another one I had.
Rookie
So you know the other one is good?
ep82-toy-let
So you know the other one is good? its got to be better than the old one, came out of a perfectly running car, and if you read the post, you would have seen it made a difference... thanks for your concern anyway. Ranter
A lot of mechanics would do the same thing. But it sounds like your gonna need one sometime. Maybe pay one to take it for a drive with a fuel pressure tester? You can narrow it down a lot from that.
ep82-toy-let
yea thanks, will have to pay a visit to one soon if I don't sort it by next week
ep82-toy-let
anyone know if its safe to gap the plugs smaller than .8mm? that's what I have them set at right now, a lot of other threads ive read blame plug gap for misfire at high boost... the plugs are new, re gapped to .8mm, champion golds, copper core plugs. eke_zetec_RWD
0.8 is fine. Can go down to 0.6 with no issues.
kpr
isn't plug gap. factory plugs are 1.1mm and will run up to boost cut, long as the rest of the igntion is working how it should.
BlownCorona
did you try a *known* accurate boost gauge? the gauge that came in my GTti charade was a cheap repco one, and i bought a new autometer one which read 3psi higher, i was concerned that id done something to raise the boost, so borrowed a second know accurate and top quality hks gauge from a member here and confirmed my autometer was accurate and the repco one was 3psi out. very possible the gauge you have is reading low and your simply hitting boost cut, especially if you have a boost tap installed
ep82-toy-let
hi, thanks for that, will try a better one as the one I have is a autogauge one. thanks.
ep82-toy-let
could old fuel cause my issue? my fuel is slightly old, going to drain it out, fill it up with new fuel and run some cleaner thru it...
downtrail
could old fuel cause my issue? my fuel is slightly old, going to drain it out, fill it up with new fuel and run some cleaner thru it... how old is the fuel?
Stu
Sounds like boost cut dude. With your front mount change you didn't knock/bend the actuator arm or muck with the vac lines? (Assuming the front cover > actuator line is on?)
BlownCorona
i really dont think its old fuel. though the other thing that just occured to me, is that my charade does some weird thing with no air filter, where sometimes if you hit high boost, it will just cut all power violently, im pretty sure this is boost cut, but im not experienced much in the way of turbo cars and problems, but its a common phenomonen with the GTti charades running no filter. so, do you have a filter? Stu
I ran filters and no filters on stock turbo setups without any major issues (other than eventual turbo damage from crap going through it). What drop pipe are you running? Stock or custom?
