peteretep
i fitted an inertia switch in my escort for the pump, passed cert no worries, was about $40 from memory
be4ver
pretty sure that push button will bugger everything up. When its not pushed in the the oil switch is ignored so defeats the ppurpose/wont activiate the relay? Nah the button is closed when ya not pushing it. When ya push it it stops that relay from earthing through the pressure switch. Opposite to most buttons. With the engine running the left relay is deactivated and the right one is activated, the one on the left needs to be wired to the normally closed contacts (30 & 87a) and the right one to the normally open (30 & 87) If the engine looses oil pressure then the left relay (which is closed at rest) will activate and open the circuit. If that makes sense...
Beaver
ah yep, gotcha
Ned
And instead if using a button to prime, you could wire it into the cranking signal to the starter. So if starter is going, or you have oil pressure, the fuel pump will go. Buttons are a pain and then require special know-how on how to take your car. Which is nice for security, but a pain when you want a mate to drive your car home or something. Having it all automatic seems like the way to go if you ask me
coldturkey
Yeah but you tend to want some fuel going in before you start cranking, not that cranking for a few extra secounds really matters but it might just annoy you more than anything when it seems like you car is hard to start. Â Â I have often wondered about the alternator charge signal, instead of the oil pressure switch. Any thoughts on this? (obviously you still need some kinda bypass for start up, but i'd think that the charge light is a more steady signal in most situations, except if your alternator died but meh you could have a bypass for that situation if you were worried). CaMpylobacter
not even reading much else but, a changeover relay which powers the pump up when cranking would work when put alongside another which switches off the oil pressure dealio. Another idea is to run the switching relay off the alternator light wiring. when you're making charge, the pump runs. perhaps a little more betterer than oil pressure. +1 on simple inertia switch, though. wire in a failsafe bypass in case it gives youi issues
sheepers
wow. talk about using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. LPG safety switch. so easy. runs off a tacho pulse, or any pulse. the trigger wire is super sensitive so you can literally wind it around the outside of a plug lead (or similar) and thats enough for it to run. 5 seconds leeway on startup and shutdown. job done with one simple little relay. Seedy Al
agreed! Although its a shame that wires wrapped round leads look terrible haha
Ghostchips
That wiring diagram, would it allow the relay on the oil light switch to stay activated even when the key was off? That might run the battery flat.
Ned
No, they run on the ignition wire
Yowzer
I doubt it's even that necessary unless your car is really shit to start, because it has the float bowl to run off. There should be plenty in there to fire it up and build oil pressure to turn the pump on. Completely different if it's EFI.
