Its a good piece of advise for the uninitiated anyway.

Although i suspect rollcage diyers will most likely be doing enough research to understand the process. I would hate to have to paint strip and repaint the would suck..

EDIT oh hey check that out.. over 30k views.

Well the interior is slowly going back in, dash was a bit of a mission with only one person, but so far no damage to the cage paintwork..

Also shoved the cars outside to do a pre-winter shed clean up..

Its a kind of an odd mix to be honest, they are all pretty different.

Yeah the evo was a pretty mild build, cams turbo, ecu, fuelling, and brakes etc.. but did end up with a nice plate lsd conversion and a set of rather tasty aragosta suspension with inverted front struts. Towbar is a hang over from when it was my daily and it did have to complete minor towing duties.. it is still great fun to hoon on gravel (like all evos should)

Could have swung the turbo falcon into the frame to complete the picture. It probably has the sketchiest torque to grip ratio of the lot!

Had another work session on the little Mazda not a lot of progress visually but we pulled the front subframe and extracted the sump to cure an oil leak from the mig weld I did on the turbo oil drain fitting.

Also plumbed up the coolant lines for the heater and turbo, old oil was looking a tad black, perhaps from lack of water cooling on the turbo, or maybe aliens.. who knows, Made a nicer set of covers for the gearbox adaptor plate too which took some time having to drill and tap holes in-situ.

Errr.. photo of hover engine..

thats the end of the run-in oil, filter is changed and its ready to pour in the 300V now that the sump goo has set.

Really need to crack on with the front knuckles next...

Bit slack on the updates here, car was topped up with motul 300v and fired up to bleed the coolant system.

It took ages to bleed the air out with the additional piping of the heater and turbo cooling lines. It would do about a 3 minute cycle from 70 degrees through to 95 degrees then plummet back to 70 degrees.

On a test drive it wouldn't hold happy temps but with more bleeding it seems to have cured the temp cycling (now sits between 84 and 88 degrees through a temp cycle) needs another quick drive to confirm though.

We have also mounted the extinguisher and installed proper mounting hardware for the seats and gearbox x-member. Car drives differently with the cage in it to what I remember, the front end feels nervous now so maybe needs a little less toe in. Or perhaps its the fact we have not considered adjusting any dampening rates or checking tyre pressures etc..

Oh yeah new hungry guy compressor wheel has softened spool by maybe 200 rpm but seems a bunch torquier (is that a word) than the old 20g comp wheel, couldn't get a proper read as the coolant temps were hunting a bit much.

There is also a plan brewing on the front knuckles but more on that another day..

No pic fail but will find something to post in here at some stage...

EDIT here we go.

Some progress on the knuckles, i needed to knock down the balljoint land thickness....

Had a struggle to get it mounted up rigid and square in the mill, not helped by forgetting to file down the mushroomed bits caused by splitting thr balljoints... ha got there in the end..

And bottom balljoint hole... now same thickness as the mx5 bottom balljoint mount.

Hello 4x114.3

Set up On the old work mill which we added a DRO to recently. Great for doing pcd's without verniers or pen and paper..

Only had a 12mm cutter so need to poke the holes through to 14mm and press the studs in..

That 0.02mm on the z axis is the movement in the bed when you lock the bed down..
