SHGWAG
So my daily AE111 superslut Levin is having a wee issue. The hand brake light keeps comming on intermittantly, it doesn't seem to be related to anything, other than it sometimes comes on when I accelerate - espeically when I head up hills. It used to do this around two years ago, then it just went away. It functions normally when putting the handbrake on / releasing the handbrake. Actually after reading this post - how is the handbrake light triggered? Could it be a faulty micro switch?
KKtrips
Top up your brake fluid.. The sensor in the resevoir activates this light also - as you are going up hill it is draining the fluid away from the level sensor and causing light to come on... xsspeed
theres a push to make switch thats activiated when you pull the handbrake up - remove the console and you will find it
SHGWAG
KK, that's one thing I hadn't thought to check - cheers.
Seedy Al
Was my thought also
Spencer
Yup it will be low brake fluid
KKtrips
I agree - I reckon it'll be brake fluid
Spencer
Seen it 100 times, its a trap for noobs. Check pad wear too as obviously the fluid drops with wear
Vintage Grumble
Semi related question, do the black top ECU's suffer from leaking capacitors like the silver top ones do?
xsspeed
from memory common BT is something in them blowing - refer to toyspeed faq on ecu stz - and they are less susceptible to leaking caps (though probably still possible/probable)

Vintage Grumble
Thank you sir, I may have to whip the ECU out for a nose, as the car does a few odd things which I feel are ECU related.
Seedy Al
Burn outs?
SHGWAG
Definately not the brake fluid, I'll check the pads in the weekend. It did pass a wof last month and nothing was mentioned RE: pads.
Spencer
Na I only said check pads if brake fluid was low they dont cause a light.
Seedy Al
other options are then just the shitty switch on the hand brake Or even the fluid might need changing. get that one some times
SHGWAG
Fluid hasn't been changed in over a year, so that may be the problem. Really I should just sell the damn thing, but in the 4 years I've owned it, it's never broken down. (It has needed a new battery after it sat for 2 months however.) Bling
I'd put money on handbrake switch over old fluid. I just don't see them being that smart / my fluid would be a few years old no issues.
SHGWAG
Pdeal has become a little spongy, and it's doing it more regularly.. Will chuck it up on the hoist over the weekend and inspect pads / Fluid change. It's done this before, but it just went away.
johnnyfive
sounds like you're outta fluid then, hence light being on.
