4AG_Addict
Maybe it's just your photos, but the wear pattern on the teeth of your crownwheel does not look ideal, a lot of wear on the front edge of the teeth. I would suggest taking your complete diff head to a local diff specialist to be set up correctly, this process will involve removing the pinion, so probably a good opportunity to renew pinion bearings & seal if required. They will also be able to tell you what configuration your diff is set up in (1.5 or 2 way) If I had to guess I would say it is probably the TRD 2-Way, that is the most common setup (The 1.5 way model was discontinued 5 or 6 years back, the 2 Way was available up until 2010) As for your starting problem, yes you have stuffed the timing. There is a procedure for removing & reinstalling the Dizzy. You need to ensure you have the timing mark on your crank pulley at 0 degress, then remove oil cap on Left cam cover & look for the indent in the camshaft, if you do not see a mark on the camshaft then you need to do another full revoluton on the crank. Then there are two marks on the dizzy itself that you need to line up straight. It can be a bit tricky. It is a lot easier to see everythingif you remove the Exhaust side Cam cover. You will need a timing light to correctly set timing afterwards, that is what the adjustment of the dizzy does, fine tunes the timing. Seedy Al
Its on a gear I liked this bit the most basically didn't touch anything else, except the taking the distributor off and put it back on again insert face palm. Anyway, do as the super helpful 4AG_addict has suggested and you should be super sweet like candy covered candy.
LingLing
Thanks Rob. shit, that's gay, I might need someone to help me with it. as I don't want to explore the engine and end up fuck the engine, as I have never done it before. errrh, why didn't I just leave the distributor along. If any of your akl boys could help me with it that would be awesome, always keen to learn adjust the timing too.
4AG_Addict
Andy I know you are a member on AEU86.org so head over there & download the 4AGE 16V manual they have available in PDF. This will detail everything better than I can explain it. You will also need to bridge the diagnostics plug before you reset the base timing. danger
Lol's me every time. Seriously, Maybe you should try find yourself some books on basics automotive stuff and how to use tools correctly? Something I've always kind of taken for granted but you're only gonna keep "screwing up" when you have no idea about basic mechanics. Buy yourself a manual at the least
LingLing
hey rob I do have the manual, I don't have the knowledge and tools to perform the job. I am also not confident, may end up blow the engine if I haven't set the timing correctly. oh well, at least I know now, unbolt the two bolts on the distributor can fuck up everything. 4AG_Addict
Yeah better to be safe if you're not confident. How come you're replacing Exhaust Manifold anyways? I thought it had a nice set of Cusco Powerball headers on it? Mitch got them off Reo at Tama if I remember right (only know that because I wanted them & he outbid me)

danger
Andy, Do you actually know what a distributor does? I'm not trying to be condescending, you obviously know what it is but seem to be lacking some fundamental knowledge http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine4.htm could be a good read? How did you go with the exhaust manifold? Did you use manifold sealant and a gasket?
Dell'orto
Yep, that's right bit too loud for daily, don't know how much they worth tho? Header wont really increase the noise, mufflers are where you look to shut up an exhaust
LingLing
Yep, I know what it does, but lack of knowledge of how it does I guess. I thought it was controlled by computer like bimmers. anyway, I actually thought about it, it might fuck up the timing if it's removed, I guess I just made the bad call. Yeh It has a old gasket which seems to be fine with it.

4AG_Addict
Yep, that's right bit too loud for daily, don't know how much they worth tho? Usually expect to pay around $200 for second hand Japanese brand name extractors. Please paint/install black bumpers on the Silver Hatch, then fit your Black Volk mesh wheels & lowering springs. Will be awesome.
danger
Nope just lingling.... A thorough search on the internet before you do stuff you have doubts about is a good idea

Did they came with black original?
4AG_Addict
Early GTV came with the unpainted bumpers, which were a dark grey colour. Flat Black is close enough & looks really good, also easy to touch up if needed.
LingLing
haha, great, How do You know it's a gtv?
Bling
Before you touch anything you should really look into what it is you're touching. Would save yourself so much hassle. You-tube is a great resource on how to do things and how things work. Unless you actually enjoy breaking things I suggest you do more research before even lifting a spanner. 4AG_Addict
haha, great, How do You know it's a gtv? Saw the photos on Trademe, has the GTV interior in it, and unlikely the interior has been changed as the 2-Tone blue is rare & usually only came on Silver cars unless especially ordered. Check your build plate if you want to know for sure, Model code will be AE86-FCMQF. The 'Q' tells you that it is a GTV.
