M_C's '69 Escort V6 Coupe

So keen to see this thing get a decent repower. I do actually have a motor sitting in the garage that is not being used, and people often put them into Escorts in the UK.

Sounds like a Vauxhall 16v XE maybe?..

Pinto conversion do able in 7 weeks. Zetec/Duratec would be tough but at least still a Ford (sort of)

Good luck.

Sweet, glad to see you're still chipping away!

What spring rates do people normally use in track / tarmac escorts? 300lb seems really low considering the V6.

I think 300lb is about right for tarmac, besides that's what they came with. No idea on the spring rates for v6 escorts as its not really an ideal race engine for it...

Medium term plan is swap to a 2l something for more power and lighter. Need to create some more $$$ for conversion yet.

Pinto for the win!

To be honest, whatever produces the most power, for the least capital outlay. Just sent my son's Pinto off to the reconditioners yesterday - its been a good 20 years since I lifted a Pinto block and crank combo. Im mother trucking sure I compressed a disc.

Whatever you do, dont get sucked into getting a Rover V8. They may be light, and alloy, but theyre complete shit. My father in law had a collection of a dozen of them in his shed from when we used to use them for 4WD'ing.

As my old man used to say "I, it might be shit, but at least its British shit" ha ha

Sorely tempted by beams. Gutted I missed an Altezza shortened at both ends on TM for 1,300... I am sure they will be crashed regularly and more will turn up.

But pinto is good for keeping it classic and retaining entry to Classic Trials.

Hope your back is ok xyghto! They are not known for being light...

I was keen on Small Block Ford V8 for a while after being told a pinto is 190kgs and SBF is 209 kg with alloy heads. 400hp for same weight and cost as 200hp pinto. Hmmmmm. But that would be the start of a pretty long road as decent balance would have v8 in the cabin with me.

Also hoping a worked SR20 will turn up for decent price. Some big spec ones on TM at the moment.

I have been following the viva with most favourable impressions. Looks great.

Web search showed the Mazda v6 as 174hp std where beams is 197 or 207 for RS200 version.

Yeah the probe or standard mx6 engines are around 170. Jdm 2.5 klze engines are 200 and very restricted. Easy to get heaps more and very strong. Best thing on top of that is the weight and compact size. Worst thing is no RWD box bolts up. But pretty easy to make a adaptor plate.

Then your esky could sound like this....(but sans the Costa Rican bad boy music)

S2000 would be great, but the Irish in me is wincing imaging their cost, I don't like the retail price of Gen 4 3SGE Beams and I have not even seen a S2000 engine for sale yet...

Few tempting things turning up to TM, but not tempting enough to part with cash yet.

KLZE V6 could be good. But that could just be the influence of over 3min of Costa Bad Boys Beats and hextuplet ram tubes screaming on the link above?

What do you do to get the "easy heaps more power" out of KLZE V6?

Maybe just buy cheap and part out this? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=663287316

Over the standard 2.5 klde you get

slightly longer duration cams,

little more lift, higher compression - up from 9.5 to 10,

the heads have slightly larger squared off inlet runners and a larger inlet manifold to suit.

slightly bigger throttle body.

Find some cheap Triumph speed triple ITBs (2 bikes worth) on ebay and then build yourself a cheap inlet setup perfect for racing...Ohhhhhhh the sound.
