  1. Hey, dont want to sound like too much of a numpty as I have only briefly skimmed over the info here - but has your exhaust got anti reversion stubs? Or are the engines that see benefit from anti reversion stubs poorly designed 8 valve engines and not those such as the 4age?
  2. First thing I've looked at this morning. I'm blown away! So cool
  3. I applaud your innovation and quality of workmanship. I'ts just a shame the kart you utilised is / was worth $$$ as a vintage circuit kart , however you were not to know. Please continue
  4. Serious wood for those Halliday wheels. Fantastic workmanship. Epic build.
  5. Loving the new acquisition. Not loving the choice of engine so much, but Chev into Ford hotrod is acceptable so meh. Am seriously digging the Supervan paint work. Now you've got one thats a runner, hurry up and finish the silver one
  6. I'll confess, I'm not a great Chev fan. But your truck is fucking Ace. It reminds me of the truck in the Queens of the Stone Age clip
  7. You are a very sick man......but I like it! Congrats on your latest acquisition
  8. Ha Ha. Yep - nothing like the pilot of the BDA rallycar youre sharing telling you that the brake pedal doesnt feel quite right... Im sure you'd know if you were getting any pad knock. Your mechanical aptitude and standard of preperation would seem to indicate that youre well ahead of the game
  9. Yeah, was thinking about that afterwards - Pukekohe, Hampton Downs and Manfield are all clockwise tracks. It would only be Taupo that could pose a potential problem. Years ago a car I used to co-drive in had a diff with fully floating axles which had twin taper roller bearings on each axle - it could still generate enough movement through the axles to generate bad pad knock. Hope you sort your problem
  10. Just an observation - you say the one set of seals takes more of a hammering than the other? Could this have anything to do with the direction of the tracks you race on placing more load on one set of seals than the opposite side?
  11. Keep the updates coming Elliott. Hope the leg is on the mend. Re the wedged struts - its such a bullshit call. I still dont see how theyre ok to be certed "if theyve got the factory part number on them", but everyone elses "might" fail. The ones in Shauns car will be being suitably modified soon so they comply. As I've said before Elliott, HURRY UP and get it painted Its looking awesome
  12. Move the tank to rear of passenger compartment / boot / wherever you want. Weld in seat brackets to suit. Plumb tank and worry about the passenger seat later?
  13. Franklin Cams 09 238 4067. Ive had a couple of cams machined by them and they were very helpful, pricing was acceptable and the end results have been pleasing to date. Think the guy to deal with is Adrian. Kelfords are very good also, especially if Kevin Bann has anything to do with them still.
  14. Yep, obviously 30 or 40 years of abuse in a rally car isnt testament to longevity. The same thing can be said about welded wedges on Escort front struts. Really makes you wonder about common sense
  15. Mexican stance for the win Seriously tho, put all of your car back together first. Amazing what a tank of gas and all that other stuff will do to your ride height
  16. Awesome car. A guy who used to work with my brother at Kirk Motors in the 80's had one - it was gold in colour. I always think of the Nissan Stanza rally cars when i think of them. Way cool
  17. If youre looking at selling the whole deal, surely the carb and inlet manifold has to be worth resonable coin? Box - I dont know about the value of Jap stuff... Flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, - it all adds up. Its got to be worth a couple of grand cash even splitting it up?
  18. Not sure what the 26J2 means - I would imagine its a day/month manufacture code, but found this on the net which may explain why you cant find any numbers on the valve spring side of the head: "4V heads may be identified by the casting mark at the upper corners of the valve cover mating surface. Australian heads and Boss 302 heads do not have these marks. A casting number identifying the head is found on the deck side. The numbers are as follows: 1970 4V (closed chamber) DOAE-G, -H, -M, -N, -R 1971 4V (closed chamber) D1AE-GA 1971 Boss D1ZE-B 1971 CJ (open chamber) D1ZE-DA 1972-74 4V (open chamber) D1ZE-GA 1972 HO (open chamber) D2ZE-A US 2V clevos will have the following numbers DOAE-E,J DOAZ-A,B,D D1ZE-CB D5AE-AA D5AZ D1AE-A D3AE-G2B."
  19. If you want to know what cylinder heads are on the motor, you could always pull a tappet cover off, and look at the casting numbers and compare them here: http://www.castingnumbers.info/site/browse/m/Ford/p/3
  20. Usually a Sport box is easy to identify. Its the Escort box with the cast non-detachable bellhousing and has the cast alloy tailshaft housing, including the top tube that the gearstick selector shaft runs through. If it has a pressed steel tube as part of the extension housing, its not a Sport box.
  21. Yes, you're right, the Steel Brothers cars were series 4s. There was only ever 1 wide bodied car built
