keltik
My only criticism of SU's is the lack of instant punch when you mash the loud pedal. Otherwise they are supremely adaptable and easy. Dellortos are said to be the better built Webers.
BlownCorona
what would happen if you did 4x SUs? or am i just going crazy?
peteretep
You could do it, but it would make the manifold more complicated and it would probably lead to less power than 3 su's because of the complications
Valiant
I have a matched pair of Jag SU carbs here but they are for a turbo conversionHow come they have to be matched sets? Can you not just change all the jets to the same as each other? 3 SUs or Stromberg would be ace, like a XU1 Torrana. Matched sets work best because there are a lot of subtle differences inside the cabs, also the throttle shafts are fairly specific length wise which makes linking and balancing them difficult. I couldn't say about sets of SUs though. Depending on what you want to achieve a 390/465 Holley might work too?
Jase
there's an rb30 running around the b-out comps in hamilton it was running a 4bbl holley (looked like a 390), i'd say it's a good option as parts are so easy to get and they're cheap enough. tbh it went extremely hard an made a few turbo cars look stupid
BlownCorona
sorry, was referring to on a 4cyl, have heard SUs are a pain to tune though?
KKtrips
hell no - SU's are super easy to tune..
street_legal
Three dellorto 40s would be big enough right? 357cfm at 7500rpm calculated at 90% V/E Thats what the entire engine would require

street_legal
Well would Dellorto 40s be big enough if I had 3?
KKtrips
Twin 40's are just big enough on a 2L pinto so I doubt they would be big enough on a revvy and more efficent 3L. But I suggest you ring someone like weber specialties and ask them for some actual advice rathe than my guessing..
mark105
i know on the L28's and L24's they run webber/dellorto 40's but this would not flow as much as a later model RB30 so maybe 45's would be more suited.
Jase
if you want something a bit different i have a set of outboard carbs, they're off a 225 johnson but would need to be separated as they run a common shaft stacked 3 a side, they'd actually look tits with a bit of work on a custom manifold. they are a 2 stroke carb so will flow a fair amount of gas and have provision to run trumpets standard.
