feathersword
I likey! Would love a little hot hatch of this nature. Corolla motor's easily get up there in the 1000's of kms, especially when looked after!
Taistorm
I likey! +1 looks like a minter ay. Looks nicer than the fxgt's you see around.
kyteler
You were going 110km/h. Naughty.
xsspeed
Pine. I recently got a 5 door liftback NZGT from Gisborne, keen on a 3 door though. I think you are right about powersteering being rare on a 3 door NZGT (the 5 doors have it), particularly as yours is pre-facelift.
fuel
not that it makes much of a difference, but your wiper arms are reversed from passenger to driver. Unsure if you corrected that when you fitted the new wiper blades.
Toucan
Sweet job on the tail lights! Sure it may not be the most exciting thing to read about, but I know many members will be keen to see these sorts of restoration techniques
Toot Toot Timmy
Cheers for having a look guys, did just shy of 1,700 km in two days no issues at all, it does have a rattle in the front but I will get to that, nothing major. Biggest isue was the POS radio that dicided to die 100km into the trip. Turned him off at Geraldine and he never turned back on. 1,600km with a 4AGE as a soundtrack. My wife was driving at 110 and according to our GPS 110kph was actually 98KPH, at 125 kph on the speedo we were doing 110kph, 4,000RPM. All GT's I have had have optimistic speedomiters, hell they go to 240 and the car is only geared to do 197 haha! Cheers Fuel, I had no idea, that would explain why they still suck even with new blades. Will swap them over... and paint the arms. Its going to be a tedious and boring project but I like detailing and enjoy a challenge.
xsspeed
Quite keen on some original spec wheels. Mine looks to have a slightly different interior, cloth door cards and seats - not leather/vinyl.
mixmasterlex
Used to have a silver one of these. Shit they handle. Don't think mine had power steer come to think of it. Was bloody fun around round-abouts with the life off oversteer. Any plans for the motor or suspension? Just keen to get the body tidy for now? As Escorta said, things like that are helpfull, shit I'm going to try it on the uno when I get some time, looks choice. Like the colour too, but I say get the original steering wheel back on there! Those three spoke fx wheels look choice when they are in good nick (although they are kinda big...)
Toot Toot Timmy
Cheers, performance is honest to put it kindly, I have a race car for my fast fix so I just plan on keeping it all OEM and using it as an around town car. If a GT wheel pops up I will grab it but they are like you say bus like (due to no power steering I assume) and not the best to drive with. XSSPEED. If it’s a NZGT 5-Door it should have the poo brown interior, different from the grey/red interior on the 3-door. 3-Door, my old car.
xsspeed
Yeah my interior is poo brown, but like I said door cards and seats are cloth not leather - can kind of see in these pics - shoul dhave saved the trademe pics. The seats/door cards are beige, but similar pattern to what you get in some of the NZ assembled GL liftbacks - possibly been changed at some point - but I have come across a couple like this. fuel
yep I know all about the faded tail lights and the optimistic speedo with the FX-GT of Spencer's I had for a short while. You definitely get used to it revving at 4000rpm on the open road quick - it really needs like a 6 speed box or something.
Toot Toot Timmy
Yea, would save a bit in gas also, small tank and long distance at 4,000 rpm gives it a short range. Think I filled up three times Timaru - Auckland.
Toot Toot Timmy
Would have been swapped out at some point xsspeed, the leather lasted about five days if you looked after it, three days if you didn't look after it lived anywhere with sun in the sky. I'm not sure what animal they sourced the leather, i'm thinking its Axolotl skin. I'm getting mine recovered, looking for some leather now. Roman
Damn those tail lights came up good! I thought my tail lights were beyond help, but now i think i will give it a go.
Simon
I really really wanted one of those liftback ones but couldn't hold out so bought my suzuki. Yeah tail light trick is awesome. I just use silvo.
xsspeed
Looking for some leather now. imagine you'll be looking for blue/grey - if you come across something in the brown spec give me a shout.
Toot Toot Timmy
These guys can do any colour you want, $1,400inc for the front seats, $2,500 full interior. http://www.rve.co.nz/leather.html If my local joker cant find the shade I want I will take it to them, they do a nice job. xsspeed
Shit, that isn't cheap, only paid 600 for the car!
Toot Toot Timmy
Haha well, leather is leather unfortunately and costs the same to install on a $100,000 car. Im trying hard to justify it on an old Corolla though.
