cletus
saw one the other day north shore area looked like an offroader style thing but had plates lights etc. cant see why you couldnt build one legally. would have to have guards- has to be pre 35 hot rod style thing as well as be in hot rod club etc to get fender exemption. also it will be a new vehicle- even old beach buggy bodys on old vw pans get certed as new vehicles when they are done now have always had a want for a slammed beach buggy, no cage, short screen ect

Valiant
Slammed beach buggy, 1302s IRS, late discbrake swing axle front, twin port motor. Lots of fun, like a road legal gokart. A guy I worked with had one.

glen
what kind of beetle do you have ? id consider buying this. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 772073.htm join a local offroading club and then go race it and enjoy the best value motorsport ever ! the class you'd be looking at would be C (challenger) space frame 1600cc vw engine use your beetle for spares. for rules, general info http://www.oranz.co.nz Example or you could pic up something like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 039421.htm 1300cc 4 cylinder class 5 buggy
johnnyfive
I believe the one we've got rusting away is roughly a mid seventies model. Its had its motor pinched and I hadn't really planned on using it for events. Just a super super cheap hack.
