ThePog
Re the breather, for a while on my lada twin cam I just let it drip on the ground - seemed to solve the problem lol. I then set up a catch can for it, was no great drama.
azzurro
ha, i will get a little breather filter i think, so only filtered fumes & oil vent to atmos/drips on the ground took the mrs out for tea in the car to hallertau in the rain last night - so under a bit of pressure, but it went sweet, heater fan on high + lights + wipers on full + stereo, and no electrical worries/smell/fires at all. Stoked Miss also seems much less now, but still there. Still something funny in the diff/gearbox/driveshaft tho and im going to get a wheel alignment and a couple of tyres swapped off the steelies. The old mismatched and misalighned tyres are a bit too hard and slippery in the wet to have on the front. Will now keep the oldies on on the back tho - woopsie! snapper
I reckon your spare engine is looking superb. I really like where you're going with this project; I lusted after 125's back in the 80's, never got around to buying one though. just missed a 124 coupe around 1990, I figured they're just not to be, for me. Great to see where yours is going.
azzurro
cheers snapper test will be if i can make it go i suppose, but i havnt spotted any reason why it shouldnt. Ill try it when ive swapped the single downdraft carb and stock manifold off the engine in the car now, which i know works/runs which should mean one less thing to adjust when i try to fire it up on the ground in the driveway Which reminds me that I would have had the sideys installed by now, except i still hant got a lovin manifold gasket. Just never put in the package the first time and still not sent nearly 2 months later stuff would have been here already 4x over with much better communication etc if id ordered them off the internet from overseas. stupid local specialists and their extensive knowledge, experience, inventory, and bricks and mortar... azzurro
lol - i reckon id get shot! I already have a shed and a 1/2 full of rusty crap. only thing i 'need' are those lamp protectors will probably throw a bid in if it doesnt get silly tho also looks like the rusty white car on the right is a 125 as well - parts car for the parts car? ul9601
the lamp guards - definitely have that period look going on... you MUST bid! lol yeah the white one looks like a 125 too, maybe he might sell some parts off that. the other looks like a ritmo/strada. Vintage Grumble
Looking good Sir, looking good. And yes, that is a heck of a list! Good luck! P.S. Roof racks look mean!
azzurro
cheers man, Im a bit overwhelmed by it tbh. i wanted to get started on this today but went to pickapart instead for the daily (needed a rear wheel bearing = whole rear hub). Scored some plush factory mats too. Luxo. Battery went flat in the fiat and I started to take the std carb off to fit the twin sideys and gave up/reconsidered. I really need it to run to be able to turn it around becuase of my teeny shed, and ill just have to pull them off to take the engine out anyway. So ill l do the front (engine and gearbox out) after ive changed the rear end stuff over and turned around/back into the garage. i did put new o-rings in the spare diff and chuck the shafts back in so its ready to go. so ill swap diff in tomorrow i think and pull the driveshaft for cleaning etc . I realised i havnt got myself a tool for compessing the rubber guibo to get the driveshaft off, so i might just cut it off and leave the fitting strap on the new one untill ive turned around, pulled the gearbox/engine and replaced them... Diff and driveshaft definitly need doing as does the engine bay rust which needs the engine out to get at easily. All the rest is ' while im in there i may as well' type stuff. snapper
great idea for carb meshes. I'd be concerned about the PVC tape holding them on though, the heat in your engine bay is going to blitz the adhesive and distort the tape. something more mechanical is what you're after. azzurro
yeah, i was surprised they fitted so sweetly and the tape is definitly temporary only. I was thinking some sorty of V band clamp, but those are even more than proper mesh filters! gonna have to pull it all off anyway
snapper
I think you're on the right track, v band - there'll be something out there that does just what you're looking for - or can be altered. bit like a large jubilee clip, only in a vee. shame about the new motor - still, it's not all over yet. sometimes things really are simple - rather than the complex worst-case we consider. I was thinking fuel phase separation in my BMW recently, and all it needed was a new fuel pump. the same fuel is running fine, and the car's running better than ever.
