coldturkey
Im also pretty keen to build something like this, although I am in the wrong location, but it would still be sweet. Cant really remember from vid (youtube is blocked at work), but are most of you running fixed gears? Cause gearboxes are the hardest part. I suppose you need some kind of centrifugal setup, or you would stall when stationary though, what is the general method of drivetrain? CaMpylobacter
centrifugal is the go if you can manage it. gruntas was only direct drivie one til now? dog clutch would be the go though. do that.

jakesae101
only issue with that is you would need a variac to control the speed

With an electric motor you would have gobs of torque and could eliminate the gearbox, clutch and perhaps even the brake(??). Dragging around two motors and a generator would be pretty heavy though It would suck, but would be interesting.
