Josh
OK so finally decided the next step with capri. Going to go down the hilux diff route. Have a mate in chch that is going to shorten it and make it up for me. I've been recomended to go discs rather than drums and here lies my question.. How hard/what do you need that's different to hook them up rather than the drums setup? First time I've done this, am going to start pulling old diff out soon so any related info would be helpful! Cheers
My name is Russell
Oh mean good idea. Keen to see this fully doncumented as im in the same boat never done anything like it before but mine is a while of getting made. Perhaps you could use the caliper mounts Gaz's has as templates also? Gaz
The drums are massive and heavy so thats one good reason not to use them. I have mounts I could trace over for ya if you want? Have to wait for maybe two weeks tho as im mega busy. They are for some kind of Toyota calipers and discs, I think cressida but maybe Flawless can fill us in on the rest of it. Spencer
pick a nice calliper that has a integrated handbrake not an internal drum and a reasonable offset (ae92, series 6 rx7 etc) get the axels re-studded to suit your current stud pattern. Then choose a disk to suit (cant remember off the top of my heead but theres several options). Then create a template to mount the calliper in the correct position in relation to the disk and get it laser cut. Maybe leave this part to an engineer if you havnt done that sort of thing before

Honda Ass Dragger
Ok Hilux Diffs First of all don't buy the first one you come across, take some measurement of you exsitng diff and go shopping for one that is very close to the orginal length I found there are legre range of hilux diff, when i was hsopping for one for my 86, i managed to find one that was only 2cm wider than my standard diff, so it worked out an extra 10mil per side once it was converted to disk break rear running ae92 calipers and s13 discs Saved me the effort of getting the housing narrowd and the axels shorted which = $$$$$$ Do some measurements, then go shopping
Spencer
im dam sure they were m/ga70 supra calipers with some unknowin rotors again i think they were off a supra good score that kit was 70 series supras run an internal drum handbrake so I'd steer clear, I fully agree with the above post dont just buy any diff go measuring. We have a selection of the short diffs at my uncles from rn25's and first gen hiace's and there is variation even in them. The shortest one actually being shorter than a factory ae85 one. Yea and ae92 callipers and s13 disks thats the combo I was trying to remember its been done alot theres probably drawings for the brackets on the net somewhere. I'll need some soon
Josh
Low'n'slow, yea I begin taking pics of the whole thing if you wish, probably will anyways for my own documentation. Spoke to mate who's doing it for me said still uses a cable handbrake as part of calliper. Cables will just need modding. Has mounts that use u12 bluebird discs and callipers also. Seems he has a whole lot made up.

Not going "properly" had it idiling but to rich, had the computer upgraded to v5 software for tuning reasons, assume that why it doesn't start now.. Nothing wrong with diff apart from the fact I'm 99% sure it'll die pretty quick. Keen to do it right the first time and have it strong as for when it comes time to drag etc.

eke_zetec_RWD
Aye? I just borrowed the image links from his datto build thread. I don't understand your post. lol welding is crap as lol oh you draging it? spose its a lot heavier than my escort. iv got a capri diff in it behind my pinto turbo and its sweet apart form the not lsd part. id say it wont break under normal racing use but launches im unsure as my tyres wont grip enough to load the diff up anyway. what tyres u using? The other thing is, he has somebody he can get diffs from so can sort out the right diff for ya anyway...
Josh
Eke zetec, I do plan on dragging it on the odd occasion yea, at the mo it's just running 17" dunlop direzzas. Will probably sort some smaller back wheels with grippier tyres when I drag it, however that's after it's all running first! I really didn't think that the capri diff would stand up to the power running through it aye, surprised yours is, your making a fair whack of power, maybe I underestimate them, still going hilux though Only thing I'm hoping is I can hook the brakes up myself when I get the hilux diff back, all the handbrake setup etc. May be more help questions to come yet haha.
