diff went straight in, so i either had a 4k diff already, bought another 2k one, or theyre miraculously the same. the one in the starlet had bigger brakes than the one i bought. fuck knows..

went for cert with andy ward, was so sweet.

then he got sick and i find out he didnt do any paperwork for my car, after already completing the list of fun tasks.

start again.. went to vehicle compliance in melling/L-hutt and got the mintest big ol' list of more shit to do.

included it says the car runs lean and thus failed emission test . its very noticable in performace, like its a bit flat till 3000rpm and the cert guy ken mcadam figured that was a symptom of leanness too. i'm not running an oxy sensor and have read the sensor is used at low rpm and ecu switches to a set fuel map at higher rpm (possibly 3000?), could the lack of oxy sensor be the problem/a factor?

I don't have o2 sensor in yet either, from what spencer tells of it, it is only ever used at cruising speeds to lower fuel consumption. The old 4age ecu's are basic as and not fast enough to read o2 sensor and correct fuel map on the fly.

Is your tvis working?

interesting..

i thought tvis wasnt working, unplugged it and it went like shit so i put it back and thats as far as i got with it. do you know if its normally closed or open with the engine shut off, no vacuum etc? i heard the tvis vac actuator switch on and off with the kill switch the other day (engine not running) and was wondering if mines not working right.

and this flatness stops at 3000rpm and from what i've seen on the almighty web net tvis should come in at 4400 or thereabouts.

i'd like to try another ecu as mines been through the wars but only have access to a non tvis one at present.

Was so keen on Ward doing the escort, but from your experience sounds like abit of a risk getting em to do it. he was in and out of hospital when he did my 2L last year also. What was ken mcadam like? allot more stringent? Is he reasonable or harry hardout?

You wouldnt know if he does pre inspections by any chance?

What other stuff has he failed you on? / whats the list? anything majour?

I have spare ecu but its dumb, starts an drives but gives intermittent faults and breakdowns and has huge flat spot around the same sort of revs, wouldn't reccomend it to anyone! PM me if you want it.

I have a first gen engine but second gen ecu, don't know what the differences are but it runs better than two first gen ecu's I tried.

@xsspeed, all good thanks anyway man. 8)

^sweet i'll try find a 2nd gen ecu to start with.. and maybe an oxy sensor for good measure

know of any other hitches with incompatible parts when swapping ecus? had problems with MAP not matching injectors which i didn't know about.

list:

'suspension/handling' - drivers side is way softer than passengers. will shorten spare inserts and springs and put em in

'brake test failed' - brakes are shit apparently. fair enough

'emission test failed' - lean

'exhaust noise + to exit clear of body' - reckons i'll get away with a good resonator and wasnt allowed hidden dumpy with pea-shooter tip

'engine mounts not captive' - need something like cups around mounts that fit into eachother to stop motor moving too much if rubber fails

'retaining piece missing on g/box mount' - brand new mount so fuck knows whats up with that. easy fix though

'weld up cuts in front x-member' - x-member was mangled to access engine mount bottom stud/nuts.

'tidy and clip wiring' - oil light wire runs under sump, have to move it

so yeah, harry hardout. felt like i was in the principals office at school haha, but he's level headed and not an unreasonable dude.

if i can successfully shorten my shocks for the front the cuntiest bits should just be sorting the lean running and fucking round with the engine mounts. yay i love doing work i was so close to not having to do. at least it'll be a sweeter car when its done.

andy wards list was :

safety cut-out for fuel pump

more drop in rear suspension

no side pipe

...

WOW! I was really hoping he wasnt that hardout! and pickup on things like

"engine mounts not captive' - need something like cups around mounts that fit into eachother to stop motor moving too much if rubber fails"

Because i dont have a system for that either!

Mabie my escort will become just a track car :( .... the suspension is stiff as a rock!

Does he inspect the car and give you a report prior to taking your payment like Ward normally does?
