mikuni
Umm.. can't see trademe at work otherwise I woulda pulled i up for ya but its a clean looking 1800 one. Who knows, it might be worth a heap but I would atleast ask the question because that setup all read to go could potentially save you a lot of time and money. Gaz
Its pretty expensive for an NA with no ECU really. Youd get a decent CA with Loom and box and Ecu for $1500. Also if just buying engine from tardme this is my choice at the mo. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =179796579 Fj20et For $1250 buynow. With Link ECU, loom, box dshaft, rad It is heavy tho. Id say if we get that mk1 with the FE3 in it then its a pretty cheap conversion package.. Its already mounted eyc to an escort crossmember! Fishtail fred seems to rate the engines hard. 300hp on standard internals.. says they are beefy as. Thats alot of power for an escort lol. Snoozin
FE3's are actually pretty underrated things. Tough motors. The fastest Datsun 1200 ute in South Africa uses one to do 8's.
Gaz
Yeah aparently they pretty mean, wonder if ya can buy turb manifolds for them from some performance shop.
mikuni
Its pretty expensive for an NA with no ECU really.Youd get a decent CA with Loom and box and Ecu for $1500. Now Gaz, don't get me started on CA's The thing with this engine, as I found with mine, is that keeping it within the manfacturer often helps quite abit of mounts and general ease of fitting. Plus its cool. Even though mazda isn't really ford I have heard that these motors go up relatively well. Plus you have the box etc on aswell. Next, the engine series is the same as the FE I think, so there is the option of going to 2L etc. I'm not sure exactly when this particular engine was made but it must be around a 2000 model, which I think would be pretty cool in an old mk1 esky. Granted it doesn't have the ecu but you'll be turboing or quad throttling anyway wouldn't ya lownslow? That FJ is definitely a good buy for that price. Those engines are super strong. But yeah, at the end of the day theres a shell and a motor mounted up already so it would be kind of smart to just get that and build it up to be something awesome. kyteler
Seems a decent price on that FJ. DO it. Seriously though. I'm with Mikuni on this.
Gaz
Yeah I like the idea of the Mazda B series engines in an escort. Its what I originally wanted to do next. The FJ is pretty hard to pass up but for bang for buck the one in mk1 shell is cheap, all the hardwork done and is a pretty good engine by the sounds. I guess ya cant see the trademe link so: Motor: 2L twin OH cam - Ford FE3 from 1993 Ford Telstar front wheel drive Gearbox: Mazda Cosmo 5 speed Driveshaft: Front connection is there but none made up yet Diff: Standard Esky Brakes: Original plan was for 2L turbo, motor was injected, wiring Loom and CPU is there. I had a Intake manifold made using the standard Flange and injector setup that came with the motor. Eventually decided against turbo so I was on the lookout for a twin sidedraft webber setup. Rust was removed and plated from the boot lid, in front of the passengers door, from the front passenger side pillar and the sills on both sides have been completely replaced (drivers side needs to be finished off - see pics. Drivers side floor pan has been replaced but is currently only tacked in place. All the dash and gauges are there somewhere. Cables run for battery in the boot. The sump has been modified to fit over the steering rack. Jus incase your interested.
mikuni
I'm with Mikuni on this. And where is that? I don't even know myself. I think I'm just super over excited and rambling shit because this thing is getting a twincam and not a pinto!
Gaz
Basically an engine mount in car with sump moded. Gbox fitted up and a driveshaft to work with there. A really nice custom plenium has been made so its facing the right way. All that needs doing is some headers or a turb manifold made up. So yeah, apart from the cables and rad etc all the hard work is done. It looks really nice in engine bay to IMO, but it is bare. Haha might actually mod this Dohc head to olt onto the pinto just so its still got pinthoe rep stz
kyteler
I'm with Mikuni on this. And where is that? I don't even know myself. Oh, roffles. I thought you were going down the MX5 engine route? That would be my choice anyway.
mikuni
^ Yeah hard. I think that engine would be a banging conversion but.. Jus incase your interested. Cheers. I saw that last night on TM and definitely looked like a good score. I guess a good way of looking at it is for me to think back to when I was about to do my conversion and was considering engine options. If a chevette shell with an ecotec mounted in it with box etc had of popped up on TM I would have jumped on that shit so hard that.... well never mind. I think thats a good option. That engine looks rangi as fuck though. Could do with a freshen up but I guess that goes without saying when building up something like this. Snoozin
As a side note that cam cover on the FE3 would look choice with all the castings machined flat, and a smooth, flush sparkplug cover.
