Rust areas in KE70 wagons

2 door wagons often rust out the wheel arches where it joins the floor, so with a solid kick you could probably remove the entire arch/mini tub the car.

Also under the window seals in the rear side windows, or under the rubber seal for the hatch. The hatch itself usually rusts around the glass as well, pretty much where ever there is a rubber seal they'll rust, they work fantastically as water traps.

Right rear doors seem to rust more than the others too for some bizarre reason. Also the aforementioned wiper tray rust, which will often lead to the floor by the drivers and passengers feet rusting out. Top of the C pillars on sedans rust too, wagons dont seem as bad.

They get it pretty bad everywhere. Did anyone see that fair go flash back? They had a DX rolla wags that was only a few years old. It was rusty as FUCK!

The story went that when the cars came in from japan they failer to remove all the protective oil from the shells before painting. Hence good old tin worm set in and they all rusted into oblivion. I wouldn't own another one.

I heard the reason why KE70's rust is because they were bought into NZ CKD and left to the elements in Thames waitng for sales to pick up - when they finally did about 3 years after they arrived they finally started assembling semi rusty bodies..

That is quite a feasible suggestion... it's quite possible the NZ public just was not ready for the kind of innovative, dynamic styling offered by the breathtaking new KE70 Corolla therefore early demand did not meet expectations.
