keltik
The threads at the top have partially stripped on one strut where the top nut goes on. Half are still there so with a clean up it would work. Diameter is about 45-48mm measured with a ruler....so cant be much more accurate than that.
johnnyfive
Oh right. Mmmkay. I will try and remember to measure with verniers tomorrow. Estimation of length extended? Those catalogs are semi helpful. They don't seem to quite specify the type of bottom mount I've got on my struts though.
Beaver
are you after the whole strut or just the insert?
johnnyfive
Insert = Strut in this case, shit don't appear to separate.

johnnyfive
Yeaaah.. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the front struts were similar in mounting to Honda Shuttle/whatever civics shared parts with these. Shuttle struts being shorter. Anyone care to comfirm/deny?
Brock-Lee
Giz pics of struts?
keltik
260mm approx from bottom of strut to bottom of spring perch, 540mm approx extended. Apparently EG civic struts can be fitted with a bit of modifying. Unsure how much modifying was necessary.
Brock-Lee
I am home at easter. I will cut/weld the shit out of your struts and make it low. keen?
johnnyfive
When is easter? But yeah, that is what struts look like. Won't welding struts = insides go poo poo? Just measured the current 4wd struts that are in there, roughly 280 from bottom of strut to perch and 550 to top.
isnowi
EF and EG civicstruts are very similar in both size and mounting method (but quite a bit shorter) except that civic struts do not turn, adaptation would be required to put Subaru bearing plate on top. IIRC the subaru clamp diameter is 44mm, the honda struts are 43mm or 38mm if you get the wrong ones. Other struts that are worth a look are mitsi galant 94-98 (7th gen?), these too mount like the civic ones and have a clevis fork that straddles the bottom arm thus would need the bearing plate adapted to them. Brock-Lee
When is easter? Won't welding struts = insides go poo poo? 2 weeks ish away. That strut looks to have a gland nut on the top? If it does then its easy, if it doesn't then we can make up another plan, maybe cut the top off and I can turn up a threaded top section to make it a removable shock type dealio. Or hit up ben/andrew/another whk honda dude and make them work
johnnyfive
Has nut, insides not keen to exit though, unsure how to expect that shiz to come apart.
Brock-Lee
pull harder?
KKtrips
If its still the factory insert in there then there will be an square edged o ring down there that you will need to pull out..
johnnyfive
I think they're definitely not inserts, if thats what you mean. Ie: pull nut = oil fountain and some inner gadgetry. But will double check old struts at work tomorrow with greater care.
KKtrips
If it has a nut it will definitely be inserts.. If it is as factory then you will find the strut body IS the shock absorber and only when they insides are removed are replaced is a self contained insert is put in.. Brock-Lee
Yeah is just factory oil filled etc. remove everything and pour out oil. replace with insert EDIT: beaten by kay^
johnnyfive
Oooh. Riiiight. riiiiiigght. I was under the understanding they were either one or the other. DERP DERP. This could make things easier.
