Rookie Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 After you prep it. You will need to make sure that the whole car is scuffed up so the clear will stick to it. Quote
craw Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 ok thanks ill try the clear on the boot lid befor i do the hole car last thing how much clear do u think ill need for a mk 2 cortina 4 door Quote
Rookie Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Probably 1.5 litres of unthinned, unhardened clear. Quote
bubblegoose Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 to be safe leave it a few weeks to cure before your put your pearl and clear coats on to avoid the risk of having any unwanted reactions, flatted back with 800 would be fine to apply the pearl coat too anything finer and your just wasting time as you wont see any difference in the finish Quote
bubblegoose Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Probably 1.5 litres of unthinned, unhardened clear. 2L theres alot of panel area on them goats with most paint systems that will net you 3.3L ready to spray Quote
chriscross Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 clear only comes in a kit 7 L depends on what system you use, different systems have different mix ratios etc 3.1, 2.1. every painter is different but I never really use thinners in clear. with base coat colours 50 /50 with thinners so doubles or paint. a kit of clear will be sweet to do two coats, use HS clear if you want good build. Quote
chriscross Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Yea if you use the razor blade technique then make sure you put masking tape on the corners otherwise you will scratch the paint badly. yep your right and bend it a little bit az well so it shaves only the run down! get any run out if you take your time Quote
bubblegoose Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 clear only comes in a kit 7 L depends on what system you use that depends on the brand, i have a 1l tin in front of me for an engine bay im doing tomorrow. Not using thinners is fine in a warm environment where the paint will flow but if your in a cooler garage spec spray area then thinners is a must or its gonna be a nightmare/some balls to spray heavy enough to get it flat (not telling you just so other readers are aware) Quote

MS clear would be prefect at home. what brand is that 1L you got? be good to know. can be a nightmare both ways with or with out. best bet is allways do a test panel if you never done it before to see where your at. just a little bit of thinners will go a long way in clear. Quote
craw Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 ive got a 1 ltr tine from auto link in hamilton but will sort another one fefor i do the job thanks guys Quote
bubblegoose Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 its just mipa, i use it on wheels, engine bays etc Quote
dylann Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Anyone know whats up with that $6 paint from supercheap, it never seems to harden. Even after a couple of days you can rub it off with your finger. And move it around under clearcoat, I'm not expecting much for $6 but that doesnt sound right. Quote
bubblegoose Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 cheap enamel can take 6 months of summer to 'dry' in, shitty solvents that contain alot of crap that doesnt evaporate much/ever i dont know what paint you are talking about but thats a general assumtion Quote
chriscross Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 EXPORT aerosol cans haha! and there thinned out way to much to. just cheap paint man! 1 Quote
bubblegoose Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 the export engine enamel goes good in my experience Quote
