Rookie
Yea just key it up before you bog so that it sticks.
Spencer
First I would use epoxy primer over etch all day, etch is old tech now. It will adhere better to the old paint, have less chance of reacting to the old paint, seal the work for a decent amount of time before you prime/paint and you can use filler over it if you want (read the tech sheets on your brand) As for stone chips, you want to take them back and get any rust out then use a filler. Personally for small stuff like that I mix up abit of fine filler like Evercoat easy sand (or a 50/50 fine filler to normal filler like rage gold) and go to town. While a spray polyester has its place it will be quicker to just fill and sand it. If you are talking about rattle can spray putty etc forget it
Rookie
I'm not a pro by any means, I'm just passing on what I did to my car under the instruction of a panel beater. Seemed to work alright though.

Gaz
Spenny speaks the truth, using 2k.... epoxy prime, fill, epoxy prime, base, clear. I believe that technically epoxy primer is the only primer you are supposed to bog over, this is because it stops moisture from getting under the bog from steel, then when you finish bog an reprime using epoxy primer it stops moisture getting in again, basically you seal up the bog to stop lifting.. this does not mean that is what everyone does but it is what the tech sheerts say. Gaz
Can add some primer filler in if required also but make sure to use 2k... 1k primer filler is shit as the paint will reactivate each layer of 1k and scracthes etc wont fill very well.. 2k the paint dont activate again once dry. bubblegoose
worth mentioning that epoxy primer is hard as nails and is far from a pleasant event in the sanding process if you want a quick tidy up then look into u-pol dolphin glaze for your stone chips and then a 2k filler primer over that (mipa is cheap and nice to use) upol also claims there bog will stick to paint as well as bare steel, not that we ever bog over paint *ahem*
Gaz
That dolphin glaze is so much nicer to work with than bog, used some stuff left over from uni days on bumper recently and had forgoten how good it was. Was actually surprised it was still good, 3 year shelf life!
Benno
Anyone able to tell me what the paint code is for Ford Carnival Red? It's for my escort, wanting to stick to the same red as was available from factory. Guy at the paint shop couldn't find it on his computer for some reason. Cheers

KKtrips
I just added a second link in my post above which may be more accurate..
Benno
That second link gives me an error, "We're sorry, you are not authorised to view this page. Please log in again."
KKtrips
OK try this http://www.standox.com/portal/ Go to colour formulations tab Then enter in carnival red and press enter Then type Ford under the manufacturer You will see Carnival Red (Spanish) Click on the fx tab and that will give you the exact paint mix. Rookie
Does someone want to do an article for the tech archive? While this thread is good it has a lot of opinions in it and it is near 30 pages long so it is hard to wade through it an pull out the good bits. Spencer
I'll start something on priming a car now which follows on from Danes thread on tools and paint stripping
Rookie
Spencer, I saw that you said that etch wasn't the stuff to use earlier, so my question to you is, what do you put on the bare metal that you have sanded through just before you put the colour on?
