  1. Cool car. You should manual swap it though. My dad used to have a three-speed-auto Corolla and it was awful. He'd put his foot down for more go and "wham", straight to 5000rpm
  2. ditto. Someone on here sold a first gen wagon a while back. $2000 or similar. Shoulda, woulda, coulda etc still lots of 2nd gen ones around, but that twin turbo debacle puts me off.
  3. that enginerding is so cool. No guess-work allowed. So in the first pic you are calculating the strength of the pole?
  4. whoa, how did you set out the posts?! Is there a footpath you can reference off on the other side?
  5. I agree that imperial sucks. but I went through a phase of calling a standard piece of framing timber "90x45" and it just became cumbersome. 4 x 2 is easy to say and it works. I guess you have a point about 2 x 3.5 though!
  6. Gah, a quick google search turns up this http://www.fitaudio.com/?View=entry&EntryID=162 I didn't think finding the info would be that easy! Thanks all
  7. Anyone know how to remove the head unit from a 06 Mazda Atenza? I can't see how to get the trim off and I don't want to wreck it Thanks
  8. ouch, I dunno how a ply box is gonna help you out of that situation. How about making up a couple of jerry-can holders so you can transport your fuel on your trailer? Then putting your fadges on your back seat?
  9. sweet thread. I'm a sucker for limited edition, slightly warmed-over versions of everyday cars and this certainly fits the bill. Keep up the good work!
  10. yeah, hydraulic clutch. Master cylinder shares a reservoir with the brake master. slave has been replaced in the last couple of years, I saw it in the pile of receipts.
  11. Cheers K-trips, I adjusted the clutch according to my Haynes manual and reverse is no longer an issue... but now it has a random problem where the clutch won't engage. So far it has only happened when I have driven out out of the gate from work and then stopped to check my phone (twice in the last week). Suddenly the clutch pedal will go to the floor without engaging. Then, just as quickly, it comes right again and I can drive away as per normal. Any ideas?
  12. oooo, those engines are sweet. Does that mean your Beagle is an EF series?
  13. I put ATF Dex III in the box. Some improvement... it's now easier to get in to reverse and the shifting is smoother. Good result
  14. I think you should sell the Blacktop and install something that is already north-south orientated. An MX5 engine is the obvious choice My current daily has the Mazda BP 1.8 twincam that can also be found in MX5's. It has a beasty midrange that I find a lot more enjoyable than a peaky 4age
  15. Sweet. thanks guys, I will install some asap
  16. Help, please! I have a 1992 Ford Laser TX3 (1800 twincam, Mazda "BP" motor) and I want to change the gearbox oil My Haynes manual says to use API GL5, SAE 75w-80 gear oil. The Glovebox manual says to use ATF M-III or Dexron II The under bonnet sticker says to use ATF Dexron II, SAE 75w-80 or, if it is above 0 degrees, SAE 80w-90 The gearshift is a bit rough. Not noisy or crunchy, but it is easy to beat the syncromesh. What oil should I use?
  17. I had one of these and it used to die at idle when warm. I replaced the IACV and it was all gravy. Don't forget the o-ring/gasket kit that goes with the IACV. I did, and had to make another trip to the dealer. Just commenting because you are repairing your IACV. When I replaced mine in 2005 it was only about $120 for a whole new one I think
  18. towie looks like Matt Farrah lingpost? Build Thread
  19. lol at the poor driver having to put up with their boss's smelly feet!
  20. there's a whole thread on here for stuff people find in used cars. take some pics of your haul and post it up! (sorry, too lazy to find thread for you though)
  21. heck yes, if I owned a Porsche it would be like this. 3.2 = best 911 engine? great to see it on oldschool
  22. love those pre-crossflow 1500s. Well, I've actually driven a sum total of one, in a Mk 1 cortina, but it was ace. It revved so smoothly compared to a pinto. Went well too.
  23. agreed. I really want a first generation CRX but one of these would do nicely
  24. sorry to spam thread but what kind of cost would you be expecting for scaffolding, K-trips? I would like to do similar, (employ dude to paint house) but I am worried about them hurting themselves and me being liable
