  1. OK, so the route has been settled to be princess margaret hospital->little river->pigeon bay->city People with low cars can try it, if you get stuck there should be more than enough other low cars to pull you out. Just drive faster and let momentum pull you through or something. Also, details of the route may change. Stops along the way will also be decided. Any queries about the route may be made directly with Hon Miltay on facebook.
  2. Gar... I leave early morning on the 17th and will need a good night's sleep beforehand (18 hours on the road).
  3. Mazda v6 would be cool, and this forum has a man of much knowledge about them too.
  4. It would probably just be a case of making up a bellhousing adapter or something to fit it to a T50. You may change your view of the potential once I upload photos of the holes haha. Not really anything that can't be fixed without an electric metal glue gun and some panel steel though
  5. Discussion Hurl abuse at my silly purchase*/suggest what I should do with/to it. * The wholesome sum of one crate of beer.
  6. Any suggestions for what I should do with the machine? Fight away. Most suggested things may come to fruition. (2zz-ge anyone?)
  7. So here's the news I alluded to in Spam the other day. Pretty much all the parts are there except for gearbox and driveshaft. Will have to pick the parts up over the next few days. Has had a fair bit of rust cut out and not replaced (I have seen worse.) Rego is on hold (LH9010). All glass is in good condition. Plans: HMMMMMM I'm thinking fix rust next summer, put a half cage in it, sort out drive line and get a WoF. Then lower. Then 4age or something. Or I could just take all the parts off and store them, and sell the shell to someone who needs a live chassis. I'll get more pictures later. Floor isn't rusty. There is rust in the boot, around where the water drains under front windscreen wiper, a little under the drivers side rear quarter window, some by fuel filler cap area. Worst rust would be the pesky stuff that is approaching the chassis number. What happens if it gets to it and destroys it? Engine was apparently a runner when it was parked up. Either way, until I sort something out it will sit in a barn and accumulate rust/dust. I will get more pictures soon.
  8. Could be the needle that is operated by the float. How long were the carbs sitting? It could pay to get them properly rebuilt by some specialists first. That seems to be what a lot of people do - and then you will know it is done right. Maybe watch/help them do it, would be a good learning opportunity. Only downside is cost. Also yeah that is the triple layer 7k gasket
  9. I think it is time for you to get to a new page, Alex. My interwebs are hurting from all of the pictures.
  10. If I have these black plates on my car come WoF time (VTNZ), what would Mr. Wof-Man be able to do about them? Would he be required to report them or just be able to fail me (in which case I would just put the whites back on)? /It's probably easier to just put the whites on for WoF.
  11. So the black plates are on. Not too sure what I think about them, I quite liked the look with the white plates. Will see how it goes for a while. Looks almost as if I made the writing a little big
  12. I was planning on just disappearing after pigeon bay pretty much and letting the bogans carry on through. They seem to reckon it is a good fun track with nice steep hills.
  13. https://www.facebook.com/events/577978265672812 So there is going to be another KP cruise in Christchurch. We want this one to be purely KP. Will head out to little river and then pigeon bay (or other way around). It will be 130 km of awesome. Please pass this info on to anyone you know with a KP. Meeting point not yet decided, will update the thread as soon as one has been found. Meet time will be 4 PM. Route apparently has gravel roads. Everyone is responsible for themselves/their cars.
  14. I'm sure after a few times the wof man will notice that your trailer doesn't look brand new
  15. Should be able to get that back bolt tight with a 150 mm extension on the socket. Make sure to get that leak fixed before anything else, it will just cause havoc otherwise. Toyota part number 17172-13050 is the best manifold gasket you can use. It is about $27 or something.
  16. Vacuum advance has no effect at idle/closed throttle on standard 4K setups. It will start fairly easily with any base timing between 0-18 deg BTDC on standard carbs. Wind your idle mixture screw out a couple more turns as being rich won't hurt it. That should help it start when its cold like that, then wind them in until mixture is correct. Might pay to find someone who is experienced balancing twin carbs, I've heard they can be right bastards.
  17. You could always get a different speedo drive gear for your gearbox or even a little overdrive that fits between gearbox and cable My speedo reads 92 when I am going 100. Makes the car feel especially slow
  18. Everyone always hassled me about the silver grille/headlight surrounds... So today I decided to get the silver off and make it look more factory. 1. Turns out I put that paint on quite well so it was quite a bastard to get it off 2. I now remember exactly why I put the paint on. One of the headlight surrounds was covered in chromey stuff and had been painted black to match the factory parts. The black had come off a little in places and it was looking manky. Anywho here it is now: (I will probably get some dark grey paint and make it look better in the very near future)
  19. I will be passing through wellington on the day of the next meet. Have to be at the ferry terminal by 5:30 pm
  20. Who do I contact about obtaining an oldschool.co.nz sticker for my mobile? The hanmer springs meet sticker is looking a bit lonely on my hatch.
  21. Good thing I have the mighty 4K and will never be in need of moar powers Yetchh (I think) put a 2L in his 121 or something and just had to get a letter from Mazda saying that the motor came out in 121s also or something when he went in for compliance?
  22. So what's the yarn with these brake test things? If one was to upgrade their 2K engine to a 3K (or 4K) engine, they would technically need to do at least the 3 cycle brake test (three stops from 100 km/h in two minutes at a average deceleration of no greater than 0.65 G). I have my doubts that a 3K would happily get from 0-100-0 three times in two minutes, would this make it fail? Or would it just be a case of 'that particular model of car also came from factory with 3K engines, no brake test is required'? (Would this also apply to driveshaft hoops?)
