~Slideways~
Went to pick a part to get interior trim for the 'parts' Lancer so I can sell it and they've removed all but one of the half dozen Lancers like mine. Which is a pain. The last one was a manual so took the trim I needed and decided I might as well grab the manual pedals etc for the 4wd Lancer. As I was taking the pedals out the fork lift guy came down the isle and I'm pretty sure he had no idea I was in there because he stopped when I popped my head up. He agreed to move it around the corner until I was done, it was just dumped on the ground but didn't really matter. I was going to take the shifter and cables but they were rusty due to a smashed windscreen so I just grabbed the pedals and clutch master. Will keep a look out for another one to turn up. It was a low km's one too so grabbed the cluster since I needed one for the parts lancer since I'm using the white face one in the 4wd lancer.
~Slideways~
Got a set of knuckles from a Ralliart Lancer/Cedia wagon thing. Normally they are 4 stud, but the Ralliart's are 5 stud with a very similar knuckle design. I measured the strut mount hole spacing (the two bolts at the bottom on the strut) and it's the same, but at some stage Mitsubishi changed to bigger bolts. The lower ball joint is different too, it's the clamp on type rather than the tapered hole type. But appears to be in the same place. Figured I could hopefully find a balljoint to suit. The driveshaft splines are identical as well. What I didn't think about is that the upper mounting point from knuckle to strut is also slightly thicker by only a couple of millimeters, so my Lancer strut won't fit. A bit more research and I found that this might be the case with the Evo 4 onwards anyway. So I guess either use coilovers for an Evo 4, only the front. The back won't work, but could possibly use Evo 1-3 rears. Or maybe try find a complete Evo 4 rear which would solve the 5 stud for the back. These Ralliart's normally have 276mm rotor's like the non-brembo Evo 4. But I plan on fitting the bigger 294mm and make some adapters to fit some GTO 4 pots which I have not bought yet but hopefully can. That way it should still fit within 17" wheels so will be able to use wheels I already have. Here is a completely unrelated picture of a steering wheel puller I made to get the stock wheel off of the 4wd Lancer, to swap only the Fwd Lancer that I will sell. The bugger simply would not come off otherwise. So I can now keep the Momo and boss kit that came with the parts car/fwd Lancer thing. I'd originally made it to pull the timing gear off of the 1jz.
fuel
If you don't already have GTO 4-pots I would look at something else like the Evo 5-9 Brembos, the GTO 4 pots are Sumitomo just like the FC RX-7, R32 Skylines/Z32 Z etc and aren't as great, plus hard to get seal and pistons for them these days. shrike
A guy on one of the FB evo groups used cobalt SS brembos on his early evo. May also be an option and I think rockauto sell them as well.
~Slideways~
This project is quite far down the list to work on but I came across a parts car for a good price so drove 1hr 45min to go get it, visited Adoom and drove 1hr 45min back, over took a food truck on the Remutaka's towing 1.5 tons uphill, the Safari does good. Would do gooder with more fuel pump. Its a dereg GSR in rough shape (1.8 turbo 4g93), mostly disassembled had a bent conrod and engine is in bits. Guy was going to use it for his mirage race car to make it awd and turbo etc but decided to keep it fwd and put a Legnum v6 in it which looked pretty cool. It came with lots and lots of useful parts. Main useful stuff is 4g93t pistons, because I don't want to blow out the non-existent budget with forged pistons. Definitely going to use some kind of forge rods since its the main weakness in these engines. Maybe use the block, but the GDI engine I have is probably in better condition. I'll use the whole rear end, same as Evo3 apparently. Has sway bar unlike mine, and has disc brakes (4x100) while mine is weirdly drums. Spare gearbox, transfercase, driveshafts, propshaft, rear diff etc etc. All unknown condition but it was working when it bent a rod so probably all ok. Will be testing the strength of all of this stuff so spares are good. Has the GSR body kit which I'll probably use too. Decided I don't want to make it look like an Evo 5, because its not an evo 5. It'll be a subtle thing instead. Will also used the engine loom to see about getting it working with a Speeduino. Poor thing is rough as guts. Unfortunately doesn't have the Recaro interior. Good towing weather on Transmission Gully, over in the Wairarapa where I pick it up it was sunny and hot as usual. . Safari towed great, needs a fuel pump upgrade though. Plan is to remove everything I need then it'll go to scrap. It's dereg and the body is pretty stuffed.
fuel
Being a CM5A GSR it should be 4x114.3 and not 4x100
fuel
also if you happen to have a spare rear diff with plate LSD let me know, am after a center for mine.

I'll most likely be changing it to 5x114.3 anway. EDIT: apparently cm5a is actually 4x100, weird.

I haven't checked this new one but if it has an LSD I'd definitely be using it for this project, the other one is open which isn't surprising due to the rest of the spec. fuel
Definitely 4x114.3, they use the same front hubs and rotors as Evo1-3/CD5A GSR/Libero GT - those same 256x24mm rotors are used on the basic 8G Galants too and they for sure are 4x114.3. I did a quick google and yeah can see lots of sites claim the CM5A as 4x100 but I suspect it's being lumped in with the regular Lancers which indeed are 4x100. Confusing thing is my Lancer which is a CM2A is 4x100, I was surprised when I found this, I'll confirm soon for the cm5a. You're probably right, just a strange thing to do, could maybe explain why mine has 4x100 rear drums instead? i.e. a parts bin thing? ~Slideways~
@fuel yep just measure it at 114.3! Wtf mitsi? So cm5a AWD is 4x114.3 disc rear And cm2a AWD is 4x100 drum rear ....huh? EDIT: but wait...does that mean... not everything I read on the internet is true? 1
fuel
I think it's to do with the power level or how heavy duty the hubs/brakes etc need to be. CM2A is half the power of a CM5A and the CM2A stuff may not have been up to the task on the GSR but perfectly sufficient for a MX.
~Slideways~
Rear bits out: Has some kind of aftermarket springs, kind of turquoise green. Sat very low, I assumed it was all the weight of parts in the back.
jakesae101
Dobi springs are usually that colour
~Slideways~
Almost done removing everything. Awd fuel tank which has pickups on both sides: Removed dash to get the heater matrix since mine is broken. Will just keep the whole thing as spares. Ecu has seen some moisture but not sure I'll need it. Also has this writing on it, I wonder why? Maybe repaired or possibly remapped, think some mitsi stuff can be reflashed. Berry and Mexted? Possibly Mexted motors? Inside looks ok with more writing inside so it was opened up. Engine loom out, will look at using this with a speeduino.

~Slideways~
Should have everything useful off of it now. Cut this off just as a template to cut and drill for the clutch master on mine. Cut the front off because Sabre saws are fun and may be handy. Removed wheels and front subframe, don't think I took any photos but it has red springs of some sort so don't match the rear. Pretty old shocks I reckon since the bump stops have disintegrated. I did laugh at this ball joint fix... No wait I did take a photo lol Also was taking measurements for the mount holes for the side skirts, then just cut it off instead haha bit of a cave man way of doing it but it's all getting crushed anyway. Pretty much done now and ready to go to scrap. Just to prove it's stuffed: These GSR brakes are nothing specisl at all, out of interest this is the gsr front rotor versus a more modern 2008 Lexus.
