Popular Post mutiny Posted December 11, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 11, 2021 i wasnt really sure if i would bother posting this on here as there doesnt seem to be a lot of interest in harleys but ohwell. picked it up the day after the second lock down, its a 1992 fxr with a good few ks on it. here it is the day i got it first thing to do was to get it a wof which it cleaned clean sheet, stoked. after getting over how bloody expensive harley parts were i went and ordered a mid control kit, around 800 dollars later they showed up from the land of freedom. i then took the cheesy silver vinyl off the tank, it was put on there to mimic a factory colour scheme it came in but it just wasnt what i wanted, i had the intentions of painting it black but will stick with the blue for awhile. obviously the seat and sissy bar had to go so ordered a mustang seat and god damn its comfy. swapped out the stock risers for a set of 6inch straight pull, sat my arms in a much nicer position buy may build a set of custom bars at some point ive spent quite a bit of time getting it running super nice but will upgrade the carb in the next few months as its getting a custom made 2 into 1 exhaust made by a local chch harley guru. tank looks pretty bare at the moment but brought some badges to put on temporarily but unsure if i like em, anyone got any thoughts? anyway enough talking heres a couple picks of how it sits now 15 Quote
cletus Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Nice! Doesn't take much to make a big improvement cosmetics wise by removing things like the ugly seat I'd leave the tank bare, imo it looks cleaner without anything on it Quote
xsinclairx Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I’m always keen to see a Harley build! Quote
Goat Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Rad! Who are you using for parts? JPCycles are pretty cheap and have super fast shipping. You can search for stuff with the harley parts numbers too. Used that for a whole heap of bits. Awesome that the motor and box are bare alloy, not chromed. So much better! And will never get to that "fucked" stage that chromed alloy always gets to if its neglected. Not sure what style you like, but have you considered looking for a sportster tank for it? Alot smaller, but makes them a heck of a lot less "fat". Have a look on lowbrow customs as they have all sorts of tanks there (and quite a few other harley parts). Run a small stand alone speedo instead of the massive tank mounted one. Some taller profile rear tyres would fill the rear a bit more. Shinkos are relatively cheap and look rad (if you're into the 70's look). Maybe some chrome rear shock springs as the black ones disappear a bit into the bike. I like harleys super lean. So my feedback is to be taken with a grain of salt Awesome bike anyway dude. Keen to see where it goes. Also, you can get kickstart kits for these, just sayin... Quote
j.e.d. Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Love it! I agree with Clint as well.. keep the tank clean, looks so much better with that silver off it. @Goat I can concur with the chrome alloy thing, just take a look at my bike I just got back & that is testament to it being a rather shit finish which I now need to blast & paint. I'm no Harley expert, but I love seeing them here, so keep the updates coming man Quote
Goat Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Also noticed this isn't a wide glide. Nice. They make the bike look far too big. (Again, in support of my lean harley likings) 1 Quote
mutiny Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 Yea I've brought a few things from jp cycles for this bike and other bikes. I found they liased around getting my last order out which was a bit annoying but ohwell. Shipping from the states is just getting insane As for asthetics I'll be keeping it pretty stock. I like the wide tank and ill be doing some big ride on it so having the extra capacity will be good. Yeah the wide glide front ends look a bit silly to me. I'm actually on the hunt for some 2000+ 39mm twin disc lowers so I can get some 4 piston brakes to go on it too. These single piston ones are poos. 2 Quote

Lord Gruntfuttock Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Pretty sure I've got FXR forks on my ironhead. They're not shiny and pretty tho... Quote
mutiny Posted December 23, 2021 Author Posted December 23, 2021 Oooo pics of Iron head? Are there a few Harleys on here had a quick blast through the two wheels thread and only found a couple. That only took around 3 hours for the pair. Hand sanded then polished with a small polishing cone on a drill 2 Quote
