Coyster
I'm currently rebuilding an HQ Monaro Coupe, it is at the panelbeating stage and I'm wondering whether or not I should get the sunroof hole removed from the roof. Someone put it in back in the 80's before I bought it and while I'm nervous about getting it done, as it needs to be done properly, and I don't really have the extra cash to spend, I don't want to regret not getting it done when the build is complete. Can anyone recommend someone who specialises in doing this kind of work and knows they do a good job? I'm in the Auckland area. thanks!
dabuzz
TBH I think sunroofs (sunrooves?) are friggen sweet period correct mods, and wouldn't really detract from the car at all rather add to its "rad"ness. Its a pretty time consuming thing to do, and needs to be done right, by someone who knows knows how to fab, you might get away with a roof cut from a sedan and take out the section you need, but if its not welded right, its warp central.. I would call Chopper at Choppers auto body restorations in Kumeu, he pumps out some quality resto and fab work.
sheepers
take it out. you'll regret it later if you don't. especially when it starts leaking and you can't buy any bits for it. patching a sunroof isn't as hard as people make out, anyone with decent panel skills should be able to sort it. i know a guy but hes eye wateringly expensive. hes very good, i guess that's why hes so spendy. if you get stuck PM me.
chris r
If the car is in the panel beater I'd spent the money now getting it removed. It'll cost more and be a pain later when it leaks and starts rusting stuff
cletus
Matt at tin tricks in east tamaki is good. 0212174158 He did some work on my car, fixed the floors, made a new inner guard to delete the lumps where the battery was mounted, and deleted the heater holes
f100_dreamin
I second Matt at Tin Tricks. He did the floors in my Belair and his work is top notch.

flyingbrick
Not only will this item put a hole in your roof, pricing will also ensure a hole in your wallet
JustHarry
Find a panel better with a reputation for metal finishing. We have done a couple roofs at work. Is a very time-consuming exercise between wheeling up a patch panel/welding/and dressing the roof up. There is a good couple hrs in welding as you can only weld 20mm ish before stopping and hammering the weld area. Will pretty much always need a fine skim coat of filler but when done properly Wil need very little product . Worth it though. Old aftermarket sunroofs are crap/always leak. And detract from total value of the car
JustHarry
Should also add. Someone who doesn't know what they're doing/tries cutting corners with he prosses will wreck a took in no time and you'll be left with. Golf ball to fill
Unclejake
^ Just Harry is correct. Welding a large, thin span (like a roof) needs a very careful, patient and skilled person.... but an aftermarket sunroof is yuck, so a delete is a great idea
