fuel
3" isn't enough, it needs to be blended over 50-100cm and as tortron said needs to be fanned across gradually blending from new to old paint. You have a very prominent cut off where the new paint stops. Also just checking, the clear coat has been painted across the whole panel right? It's just the base colour coat that gets blended but you still need to cover the entire panel with clear coat.

No, the new clear coat has not been placed across the whole panel, just the new paint, with an attempted made at blending it, but now I can see that's not the process. fuel
yeah that would be the main source of the visible transition, it is possible to blend clear coat but is best left to the pros with experience and with the right products. For a DIYer it would be easier to blend the base coat over a reasonable distance (on top of the scuffed original paint) and then lay clear coat down on top of the whole panel.
Indiana_Jones
Cheers, I might have one more play with the materials I have, if no joy, then I'll bite the bullet and get her down to the paint shop. I've given the old college try, but may just concede that it's beyond me.
Bling
Rust in A pillar under screen reminds me of mine. Can only see so much in photo, but I imagine that's a window out job. Rust is fun! As for fixing now vs later, i'd do now so it can't get any worse and potentially pop the screen. 2
