V8Pete
After looking at trucks, Ky took me for a coffee and cheese roll, then we went to Riverton. I continued to Te Anau.

kyteler
Glad you made it to Monowai, obviously the gravel wasn't too bad then. Awesome sauce. After I returned homeward, I got to the city boundary and it started raining. Looked in the rear view and it was blue skies. I considered turning around to try and catch up...

V8Pete
Milford Sound was amazing but also a bit disappointing. It's such a huge tourist attraction, but the facilities are embarrassing. At the end of a ~2 hour drive from the nearest town, Te Anau, there is one "cafe" which just sells packets of chips, petrol station spec pies, triangle sandwiches in plastic boxes, instant noodles, Mars bars etc. Seems like such a lost opportunity to upsell the local kaimoana side of things and make it more of a destination instead of just a place to get off the bus and onto a boat. So for lunch I ended up having a butter chicken pie (was the only one they had left) and beer for $15. In hindsight, I should've starved in protest. Also, the food place is a solid 5-10 min walk from the boat terminal. The boat place only has vending machines. Don't get me started on Te Anau! No wonder everyone brings a van!

Willdat?
How was the road into Milford?  A few years ago I'd stayed in Invercargill and thought I'd book an overnight cruise in Milford. Booked and paid for it before we left. A friend of mine, a pretty conservative driver told me it was about an hour from Te Anau to Milford. We had a casual lunch in Te Anau and left ourselves 1 hour and 10 mins until the cruise departed.  2 mins out of town the sign said "Milford 110km - allow 2 hours minimum". The next hour was the dodgiest driving I've done in my life. Soooo much black ice ABS action, but we made it.
Rhyscar
I did the exact same trip in my coon a year ago but in reverse. I've got pics in the exact same places as yours almost exactly to where you parked... haha bringing back good memories.  Glad to see you enjoying the car it makes me much happy. Make sure you do the road from Wanaka over to Haast its amazeballs. Best road I found while I was down there - slightly better than hooning around Caitlyns. Did it in about 1hr 15mins I was trying quite hard and managed to wear through 5mm of tyre tread in the 300 odd kms had to get a new set when I got to Invercargill.
