HighLUX
http://www.oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/41755-curtins-beginner-85-mark-ii-sx70Sweet base to start with.W55 will be a 5 speed man, looks like the gearknob is telling you lies
EURON8
W40 is 4 speed no? How certain are you that its a 55?
EURON8
looks like the gearknob is telling you lies Imagine if you got a car, saw the gearknob and just kept driving never knowing there was/using a 5th gear - /I always go for the phantom 5th when cruising in 4 speed cars anyway
Brennan
My flat mate drove his ss ute back from Auckland to palmy not realising it had a 6th gear. Nice mark 2! A 3sge/3sgte would slot in there quite nicely I think
e30-323ti
W40 is a 4spd.Perfect candidate for another Beams 3S-GE transplant, almost a 'bolt-in' deal.Good score for a 21st gift-o-rama, look after it and don't put it sideways up a kerb!
thegreatestben
Only two options were 5spd manual or 4 speed auto. Doubt a w54 exists
EURON8
i meant 40 haha
Raizer
Imagine if you got a car, saw the gearknob and just kept driving never knowing there was/using a 5th gear - /I always go for the phantom 5th when cruising in 4 speed cars anyway Was over 3 months before I found 5th in a Laser I had, the 323 I had before it was only a 4 speed and the laser shifter was tight to get up to 5th haha
Curtin
Yeah I thought w55 was 5 speed, but it says w55 on my vin plate, and its definitely is 4 speed haha. could be a mistake? Would be super keen on a beams 3S down the line! would I need to sort a new trans and diff too? loom? ecu? very new to this whole engine swap thing, have little knowledge on it but I'm keen to get stuck into it
thegreatestben
I find it very unlikely the 1s-u would cause any damage or undue strain on a w55! Maybe the old chap never used 5th or something weird now it's stuck haha
Spencer
Ye these had w55's to new to roll a w40. Get under it and have a look will tell you if your sweet 5 speed has been stolen or it needs some work to get 5th
thegreatestben
I don't think there are any s motors with earlier w40/w50's coronas and the like have t50s. Don't think there would be a compatible bell housing in which case
Hachi-ichi
so taxi spec it's cool !

Curtin
yeah possibly, that would be a cheapish fix? haven't been able to figure it out yet, crusing to Wellington for the week and will try and sort it out when im back up
Curtin
anyone have any suggestions for suspension set ups? have asked a few shops and they say it too old for adjusties? and just suggest 30mm low springs got irs in the back
chees-
bc make adjusties for it. thats probably your best option. in my case the lowering springs that came with my 61 chaser were utter shit. have gone with s13 adjusties.
Mitch.W
Are you sure you have irs!! I didn't think wagons came out with it? Weld on sleeve kit with your strut body shortened by 50mm and shocks to suit, easy and cheap!
HighLUX
Its a sedan... Thought it would be solid too since its taxi spec and E series duff
