Banter's TA61 Celica of yesterday's future

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, feel free to discuss my new bad investment.

Project thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38683-banters-ta61-celica-of-swiss-cheese-and-pure-80s-style/?p=1097243

First thing; does anyone have a suitable diff for sale? I'm not sure if it's T series or F series but it is IRS. Just looking for a cheap open one at the moment.

Also if anyone has any pannels/a parts car that I could pillage for cuts please hit me up.

Cheers,
Andrew

Great project, the Notchback Celicas are such a under rated car. Certainly one of my favourites.

Still seem to have a reasonable following in the USA, have a look on 'Japanese Nostalgic Car' forums, and also try eBay for a few good parts every now & then.

Nice, If you have the time and space i would really recommend a full strip down and get the body well sorted.

I regret not doing that to my Ma61, but really looking back i had the time and space to do it, i was just put off by

the idea at the time.  Its really not that daunting and its the best way to make sure your time and money spent will

be worth it in the long run.

Hey Man,

I almost bought this, but it was the combination of a few missing bits, rust and 10 cm water standing inside that I decided it was too much. bought myself an mr2 instead :D

Body looked like it holds a few surprises, but its an awesome Car! good choice

Hey Bene, yeah surprises there are, I've got some photos to go up showing the extent of the damage. Pretty much all the interior bits are there actually, they were just sitting in the boot. The water seems to have been a recent addition as the only damage is soaking carpet underlay, no rot in the floor pan.

New pics will be up later tonight. Chur.

I think he can see that team, hes going to fix it :-)

good on you for persevering with it.

Where-abouts in the Manawatu are you?

Close enough to make local monthly meet....?

Also if you haven't already/it's not the place you may have one lined up from, and that falls through,

try spartan wreckers in Auckland for your rear screen hunt.

They seem to be old/odd Toyota specialists, sail city residents could probably confirm or not?

(09)298-6019

God knows why I have two numbers for them, but luckily these lads had a rear screen for my oddly

shaped Toyota GX71 Hardtops replacement after some random cunt smashed mine driving passed it parked outside a mates.

They just might be able to help.

Get numbers off your tail lights as them seem to like using them as references

Thanks for the encouragement J. I'm in P town, I'm usually busy on tuesday evenings (looks like thats when they're going to be happening now?) but I'll make an effort to get to the ones I can. And thanks for the heads up on Spartan, no doubt I'll need something else along the line.

toymotor, I've got some more pic you might not want to see coming..... Next stage is patching the thing up!

Goddamnit I want one of those Celicas!
So gutted I didn't buy this one.

Rust is nothing compared to my ta23, so woulda just welded, wof'd and driven!

That said, and not to hijack the thread, but if any of you swell gents have or know of a notchback celica for sale, PM me please!

Anyway, good luck with it yo! Keep it super 80s!

good to see hippo's old GTrally being fixed up!  such a rare spec too.  and that black interior is badass  :-)

AA63 4age celica GT i think has the irs T series also.  If you get stuck finding rear end bits, maybe hit up callum WDE_BDY in gisborne, think he may be parting his ta61 celica out?  Or upgrade to the F series subframe assembly which means altezza lsd's can be fitted.  can source those from the 18rgeu and 3tgte powered A6 celica and tt142 corona GT-T also.
