  1. Nice, If you have the time and space i would really recommend a full strip down and get the body well sorted. I regret not doing that to my Ma61, but really looking back i had the time and space to do it, i was just put off by the idea at the time. Its really not that daunting and its the best way to make sure your time and money spent will be worth it in the long run.
  2. had a very successful day yesterday thanks to alot of the usual suspects. installed rear sway bar, got head lights to work properly(although not popping up yet) reverse light problem figured out boost controller wired in, rsm wired up and alot of the wiring mess tidied up. filled radiator up with toyota coolant and water wetter and installed the cooling panel. Another big day like that and it might be ready for cert.
  3. i pulled the car out of hibernation a week ago to get back into it. tested the lsd on several occassions now. Wheel bearing decided to spit the dummy and now auto trans is wired up. cause of sticky throttle sorted too..
  4. some more wiring, final interior fit out, fix oil leaks (optional) ha the sump holds like 9 litres! then dyno time, then cert then burnout ok
  5. well, just been for a bonnetless drive. pretty tempted to leave it off lol, the engine sounds so much cooler without it. Seems that the bonnet was causing the problem as i thought. so notching or massaging the bonnet later on.
  6. yeah, or gently massage it. will see how i go. i think thats going to be the easiest solution. And yeah, it caught me out a few times
  7. the bonnet is what keeps the turbo from sucking up small children. It seems the throttle body wheel has been catching on the bonnet. resulted in a massive burnout on friday that left rubber on the car parked behind me.
  8. going to go for a bonnetless drive soon.. pretty confident thats the problem
  9. cheers guys. For now the threats of violence are keeping it here. But for how long i dont know. Hopefully i get it all sorted and i can convince myself that keeping it is still a good idea.
  10. picked up the replacement tank tonight. Stripped it back, cleaned it up and painted it up. Pretty sure ive increased the capacity in the process at least it will look clean for anyone that i run over. what a difference!
  11. dropped the tank today and found it was messier than a drunken trip to hamilton in the middle of winter. Looking for a replacement tank, or getting this tank cleaned properly. What do people recommend? part of me is thinking i should man up and get a proper drop tank made up, but i would rather spend that money on tyres. 1 week old mobil 98... wasnt that colour when it went in
  12. well not much to report, except the battery is probably dead. So im on the look out for a replacement orbital exide battery, or optima if it will mount up the same. Big thanks to my right hand man (and occassionally left hand) Malcolm, we tested the fuel pressure last night with a 14psi gauge! doh! Put the trusty oil pressure gauge on there and it seems there is a problem. The walbro (was sold it as genuine) seems to be really loud and we are going to test it out of the car, bypassing the factory fuel lines. Not sure what to do if the pump proves to be ok, i guess ill have to redo all the factory lines. If the pump is knackered ill probably opt for a bosch unit. Im so over it, i should just put a rotor in it. Also, thanks to Kevin for the power steering reservior of non floppyness. much better. and because updates are gay without pics.
  13. lsd will have lsd oil sticker on one of the fins (this is very hard to come off, so it will be there) f series diffs are fairly strong, but id imagine putting any decent power through one will result in mess. Depending on what you want to do with the car, id go with the true trac lsd centre, tried and proven. while you have everything out, id also replace the bushes and modify rear subframe for rear camber adjustment.. But yeah things start to get expensive very quickly...
  14. alternator has been dropped off at the good folk at western auto electrical for rebuild. Not yet skid vid equipt, but getting there. seems to be hitting some sort of cut at about 4000rpm, so ill need to look into that. man youtube made the vid quality crap.. ill look into that later
  15. Wicked, looks like a real car now. trying to work out where to mount the rsm and safc Here are my current ideas with rsm to be mounted in ash tray straight, so not as gay. all tucked up in the a/c grill and 7mgtes.. gettng pussy since 5 mins ago
  16. After abit of a dry spell with being pre occupied with other things i received a package from my sponsor. Big thanks to Ewan at Hayatonka for the Safc 2 and defi HUD With some fresh motivation, i think im on track to getting the heap on the road. The car is nearly ready for dyno now, with just the alternator and a couple of oil leaks to sort before i can book it in. The alternator was tested fine before it was installed, but as with the rest of the build.. nothing goes as planed.
  17. been a good day. although i should probably drink less beer and do more work. Got the front bumper pretty much on now, just a couple more nuts to go and then i can think about putting the fog lights and indicators back in. Starting to really like the nice clean look of the facelift front bumper, so i might reconsider the front lip, although i did play around with the side skirts, to see how they looked. She looks like a car again! nothing to see here folks... so what you reckon? run with the side skirts?
  18. its starting to look like a car again! Stu has refused to let the urge of binning the auto loom and moving to a different country and has made some major progress this week. Auto loom is ready to splice into the car and the front loom is pretty much all done. Dash loom should be sorted this week and then i can think about booking it in for dyno time. Plugs are fouling due to the air/fuel ratio being lame, so ill get some other plugs in there for dyno. it would seem that cusco camber plates do raise the car slightly and the wheels stick out about 5mm, so that means ill dial in some camber in the front Think ill make the death race modifications to the car once its legal just intime for megameet.
  19. since your car is already red, it would make sense to stick with a red of some sorts. GO for a nice deep blood red i reckon. Try and have it finished in time for October.. ill be down your way then.
  20. been a very successful day today, big thanks again to Stu, Malcolm, Kevin, Adrian and Crazy Jase. (and lisa for supplying food) Got the tacho sorted (stu's handy work with Chris's instructions and $2 worth of jaycar bits) Car is now running a hell of a lot better, with the tps and afm being funny before. Got oil leak (dont want to go for a dry sump set up!) to sort and power steering system still has air in it. Still cant get codes from the ecu, but we suspect it has something to do with the auto trans ecu not being connected up. Another vid for you anyway... hopefully skid vid isnt too far away!
  21. stick with it.. what motor you going to run?
  22. getting there... Huge thanks to "Sir mix tape Adrian", Dangerous Jase, Cully, Aaron and Lovely lisa for their help yesterday. Got the car running, although missing the blanking plate on the back of the head by cylinder 6 (made it sound like a lazy v8, fixed that and she was running like a subaru. Fixed injector plug number 1 and it was now firing on all 6. Not idling very well or revving at the moment, but probably something to do with the timing and tps i think. Made good oil pressure and exhaust note is awesome.
  23. Well im down in the dumps about things again. 1 fan is stuffed so i need a new one. The battery is on its way out, so i need a new one. 7.5litres of oil in the engine and its not even in the lines, cooler or filter yet so oil changes arent going to be cheap. Had one nasty fuel leak to start with, but got that sorted. Some gremlins have been playing with my car and the fuel pump and starter signal latch on. big thanks to Malcolm, Stu and Cully once again for their help. But yeah patience is really starting to wear thin. engine bay as of 5 mins ago.
  24. house is far more rewarding i reckon. bought our first place about 2 and a half years ago, probably part of the reason this is taking so long another package arrived today 2 catch cans. 1 ill use for oil catch can and the other for radiator overflow. Both will need some modification, but they should do the trick. Also got some exhaust wrap, going to do the exposed wastegate pipe and downpipe at this stage, although i am thinking maybe i should get another roll and do the headers as well (they are currently procoated)
  25. well motivation has picked up abit after a good weekend of work on the car. Had to miss a few things (drinks at a mates, mates kids birthday and helping someone move) but sometimes you just gotta keep on keeping on. Another big thanks to Jimmy and "thats a strong drink Malcolm" for their time this weekend. got pretty much most of the oil and water lines done now. just gotta finish the cold start injector line and the oil return from turbo to sump. Went for a ride in my mates twin turbo 1uz jza80 and saw how well exhaust wrap works on stuff, so think ill be looking for a good supplier of exhaust wrap soon. Got the new floor board made up and autodec cut out a corner of the carpet and overlocked it for the battery relocation. So many hoses and stuff now, but yeah 1 step closer to start up. Ordered 20l of oil as well, should hopefully do the initial run in and then first oil change.
