mattj
Interesting, I had other issues with mine with the holes being too close to the edge. But he didn't like the locator that was welded to the axle. I guess I shouldn't complain not having them has saved me some work....
Valiant
Great work Matt, those arms look awesome. You must be nearly ready for a drive now.
mattj
Thanks Pete, yeah it feels like I am finally getting there. It would be good to take a few more days off and nail all the little jobs but I have no leave left so any time off would have to be unpaid which isn't so cool.
Halky66
Hi Matt Great work I've been following your posts with interest recently, my Anglia project has a 4AGE and T50 5 speed and is being painted at the moment. Unfortunately not knowing any better I went down the very expensive route of buying & importing the entire Milton front suspension catalogue only to find the Mk2 Cortina based struts are not able to be certified in NZ & are now very expensive paper weights, the Milton steering arms have been verbally ok'd by Don Hoff but he wants them crack tested. I really like the look of your CNC arms they look awesome, any chance of getting a set made for other Anglia enthusiasts or were they a one-off?? cheers Kelvin
Rookie
My advice to you is to modify stock items as little as possible to get you to the height you want, get cert, then put in all of your nice gear. There is no good reason for our rules, so simply ignore them, once you have a cert that says adjustable suspension you will get wofs no problem.

How urgently do you need them?
mattj
Did Don Hoff actually see your steering arms and OK them? I had one of the Milton ones sent away to LVVTA by the certifier here in Nelson and they were rejected so something to keep in mind...... Halky66
No rush on the steering arms Matt, yeh I was interested to see how they go for you through the Cert process and bump steer test, you've put a lot of work into them so sounds like they should hopefully sail through with no problems. Long tail of woe with my Milton steering arms unfortunately, I originally bought their first version which were just cut and welded Mk2 Cortina originals, obviously they were rejected outright so I then bought the version 2 which Don Hoff has had a good look at and verbally ok'd but wants NDT tested which I knew would be required anyway but I'm a bit nervous now after hearing your experience with them, to avoid any issues I think I'm going to be better off with a set of your flash CNC ones - any idea on how much they might be ballpark?? mattj
Yeah I would be very careful with the Milton arms, if you are going by the book then they are too thin (12mm as opposed to 16mm which is the requirement) and they have been MIG welded where they should be TIG welded and although the 105speed crowd bleat on about how the bolts hold it all together when you look at them the bottom piece where the arm attaches to the TCA is welded and if that weld fails (that was where the welds were cracked on my ones) then they could separate from the TCA. I will get a price for the arms from the machinist who did mine and let you know, there may be some others interested which could help get the price down. I will let you know anyway.
Halky66
Yeah I'm fairly confident now, after hearing all of that, that they will ultimately be rejected as well given the issues with welds despite Don Hoff initially being happy that its the bolts that hold the pieces together. I might just list them and my first set on eBay UK and sell them back to someone over there and try to recoup some cash, could probably do the same with my unused GAZ/Milton Mk2 Cortina struts although the freight would be a killer, they'd still be OK on a race car here just not able to be cert'd for road use which was gutting. Really keen on a set of your arms Matt, I'm sure there would be others interested too.
peteretep
It's a shame so much U.K. Stuff doesn't comply with NZ rules but at the same time it Forces us to make way better stuff. I'm glad I made my pedal box as its my own and I can modify it as needed

I will let you know anyway. 'MATTYJ's Anglia Speed Shop' Has a good ring about it. Do it!!!! Anyway. A guy I know has these two plus two more stashed away. If i had some of that money stuff I would buy one from him. I just love the tiny size of Anglias. I loved driving Glens little car at Hanmer. Its so under powered but so magical. I'd love a 100e 2 door but hardly any around and Dean Rainbow wont sell me his rusty one Was hoping to make a date to see your car on Friday Matt but wanted to get home early for other things. Shane is going to get his Anglia out to me soon so I can start fitting my old 12A turbo into it.
mattj
Ha ha yeah but it wouldn't be a fast turnaround on cars, this one has already taken way too long! I am also pretty keen on a 100e, problem is I also want a Datsun 1200, sr coupe, rx7, mk2 escort, gen1 civic, HQ ute, etc, etc. Guess until I win lotto I will just have to stick to Anglia's
Valiant
Yeah I'd like a 100e too. Alex I know of a couple of Anglias for sale if you're keen on one.
yoeddynz
Oh yeah keen but no monies right now for extras. Plus trying to some how stick to some sort of one in, one out. Sounds odd for someone on OS with a bit of land but I really enjoy not having too many cars about to trip over. Hence my love of pushbikes because I have enough room to just keep collecting more (and they are cheaper..sometimes)
BDA780
Car is coming along nicely. However I must ask, does the K&N fit under the bonnet? Also, your signature links are broken.

Cheers, yeah the filter is one of those things I am undecided on, the one I have is going to stick out but I could get a shorter one to keep it all under the bonnet but I think I would have to go for the shortest one that K&N do (or go for another brand) I am not that keen on how the short ones look but want the car to remain fairly standard looking, so yeah I don't know......
