M_C
sorry about that haha. where do you live just out of curiousity? No worries, I was expecting it to be a particular style of Hiace... I am in Eastern Bays Auckland and about to enjoy rainy day traffic getting home. Looking at the Hulix codes the work van has a matching 8" G series with 4.1 ratio. Hmmmmm would fit nicley in the Escort.

M_C
Maybe melting moments with tie rod rubber boot 2-3mm from the brake rotor...? More pics and details in the build thread http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=30748&start=25 Helpfull/amusing comments appreciated! NaN
Ok, that doesnt look right to me, - you could re-design the brake calliper mount out of much thicker steel, say 14mm, get it to saddle (at say 8-10mm thick) and then step outward from strut side of the mount, loose the nut bolt arrangement, and tap the bracket with a thread resolving all the problems in one go. - that rubber bush will die pretty fast. - you can move the hub outwards, by adding spacers on the underside of the inner bearing race, a machined down old bearing race would be perfect for that. - I do wonder though, if going to rose joints for the steering arms might resolve that issue, easier, cheaper, and better. My name is Russell
Thats exactly the same amount of clearance both my escorts have and never had issues. Track car might even be closer as it has thicker disks.
KKtrips
What Russell says - so unless you plan on getting the disk red hot then the heat won't be enough to upset the rubber. Being as its an Escort with an Essex V6 in it - I'm going to say it won't - Cologne V6 may be a different case.. By the way thats not what I would call close - close is the thickness of a playing card...
NaN
I really would have thought that rubber would be a problem; really good information to know because it totally runs counter intuitive. And I'm pretty sure thats going to come up with my project.
M_C
Good news I don't need to pull it all apart again. Surprising that such a small gap has been OK on Low N Slow, I was not expecting that asnwer. Was expecting more along the lines of the awesome power of the mighty essex will soon wilt the rubber resulting in a quick armco embrace. Going to have to pull it apart again at some stage to paint the brake brackets so will skim a little off them and the spacer then. Cheers
sheepers
if you really wanted to you could take a couple of mm off your bracket/spacer thing but as said above i reckon the whole lot will be fine like it is.
M_C
Cheers, soon going to find out with track day next weekend. Oh Yeah!
Bantam
Capri gearbox on TM for $400 on the Shore or does it have something bigger?
M_C
Cheers mate, found that one. Looks like a standard type 9 for 1600 for 2L. From memory the 3L ones have strengthened input bearings or they get lunched quickly. Current plan is to pull the Zodiac 4spd out and see what's going on. If toy money funds allow I have a line on a rebuilt celica 5spd with correct bellhousing. Hmmmmmmmm nice 5spd...
Bantam
Might just be a bearing. Maybe towing on the angle sent the oil down the back of the box. Keep us posted.
QCADTA
where did all that oil go? did you fill the box when ya put it in? fill her up and try again.
