1stgenlancer
hi guys, i finaly took my 1979 lancer for a cert, it faild, mostly little things. 1 being the accurecy of my spedo, i have a 1.8l turbo cordia motor, 5 speed sigma gearbox, and 14" mags with 195 45 r 14 tyres on them. my lancer was factory 1.2l 4 speed, my spedo reads 62 at 50 km 88 at 70 km 99 at 80 km 124 at 100 km any 1 out there know what i can do to make this right???? Beaver
I imagine your tyres are alot smaller rolling diameter than factory, and also the gearbox switch has probably put it out even further. One of the mitsi nuts on here might be able to help. edit, assuming the original tyre size was 155 13 (which google says it is), then your new wheels make the speedo 9% out. plus the difference from factory (speedos are never corect), so say an extra 5%, so the best part of 15% error. probably explains it why your speedo are so far out

plasticdash
chuck the speedo sender gear off the 4 speed into the 5 speed and u'll be all smiles
Ogre
Mines the same, tried different speedo gears, dosnt help.its because you are using the sigma box also as they where set up to run a lower diff ratio (3.6 or somthing), where as the lancer is either 3.9 or a 4.2. DJZ
Speehut make GPS speedos. You could try asking E Parrot & Son, I think they can recalibrate them. http://www.eparrott.co.nz/

1stgenlancer
i went to try put a 4 speed spedo sender in in the weekend but the box im running has a smaller spedo drive, same as the fwd,s ??? and is glued in there very tight, i cant get it out grrrrr! so i think il have to send my spedo cluster away
barf
if you send it away, they'll need to know how much to adjust it by using your data, the correction factor would be 1.24 (aka +24%) 50 62 1.24 70 88 1.25 80 99 1.23 100 124 1.24 DIY electronic speedo could be easier/cheaper? Jaycar sell kitsets for like $50 which can adjust signal frequency.
