I stopped in and asked what the legal mumbo jumbo was with running widened steels. They said the whole car would need to be certified not just the wheels. Just some food for thought for those like me who are heading that way :D

legally, thats correct.

realistically, its a load of bullshit. ive personally got wofs with widened steels and know of others who have as well.

just make sure you clean up the welds and make them look nice.

or just swap wheels out for wofs. and may as well put uncut springs in at the same time etc lol.

As Beaver posted at the start widening costs $80+gst per rim and also moving centres costs $30 or $35 + gst (I can't remember which ha), turn around is going to be a couple weeks.

Update:

Just picked up my rims from Howat

Tidy work and a good price, $160 to have two rims widened 1" and $70 to have the centres moved on the other two.

sweet man. I rang up today and he had forgotten how mcuh I wanted mine widened so hadnt started......he said hes going to get onto them next week so theres hope yet for hawkes boes/probably not/have to get tyres

Fyi: howatt works from his house now, the workshop was closed when i went there last. His address is on his website. Down near waterloo.

He split with his missus and had to sell the workshop but he is still definitely in business from home.
