mmmm lathe :shock: I think you will find we just became much better friends :D

Holy shit! @ the belt drive cost.

Could you make something up?

Perhaps laser cut the toothed pulley profiles and sandwhich them between thin discs (to get the overlap at the edges so the belt can't come off sideways)

EDIT: Or just spend some hours with an end mill and an indexing vice

The bike belt is pretty specific I think, I did quote the blingiest option though, might try with the less bling one and see how it pans out.

so sweet, what's involved in butting the tubes/buts?

Butting and mitering are different, this is the mitering;

This is so the joint is strong as possible. I always thought the tubes were just squared off and the lugs did all the work but after reading my awesome 1980s amateur framebuilding book I got the rules. The butting is in the tubes themselves, it means the tube is thicker at the ends, in this case 0.9mm at the ends then after 100mm ish thins out to 0.6mm.

Another diversion from framebuilding... my new Gazelle/tweed run bike, this has been a total cunt to even get vaguely to the rideable stage but hey;

man those handlebars are exactly what i'd like for one of my single speed projects....

You should flip them upside down to give it some race stance.

Also, whats it do for brakes? coaster brake?

Coaster at the moment, but it came with a 3 speed drum brake combo, and drum brake on the front too, it will get those too in a wee while.

I had a pathracer, was too difficult to ride long distance, which is why I swapped it for the Gazelle...
