peteretep
so i put the motor in my car today, except the damn mounts dont work out -first tried 'the standard' one long mount(on drivers side), one short, both threads sat at the base of the slots, so engine was sitting too low -then tried 2 long mounts, again, both threads sat at base of slots, although the face of the mounts was now closer to fitting -thirdly, added 11mm spacers(bolts) to drivers side mount, now it sits almost high enough(i think), except that the drivers side mounting face isnt parallel with the crossmember possibly, my idea of what a long mount is, isnt quite right so im using short and shorter?? but the original mounts i tried out were urethane units from suspension tech, so I assumed that they were correct heres some pics of how it currently sits
Requiemk
is it possible your crossmember is bolted in the wrong way round?
Raizer
is it possible your crossmember is bolted in the wrong way round? No. Get rid of the blocks of glued on rubber from those mounts and use Pinto rubbers, that should raise the engine to the right spot. peteretep
forgot to mention, xmember is the right way, used to run a 1300 xflow 711m block, and is now running a 681f 1600 block from a mk2 cortina whats the difference in the pinto mounts, I heard something about 1600 sports having the round ones as standard?? Stronger, a lil taller and no risk of them ripping off the metal mount. Dunno about sports having them, I have only see one scort with them stock and that was an old 1600 MK1 van
Leebo3
If I remember right, my Mk2 Sport had round mounts, trying to find a pic. Not 100% sure but yeah.
dylan
i bought round ones for mine there out of a landrover its just a round rubber peice with a bolt out either side an i chopped the old rubber peice off the mount then drilled into that mount put a nut on the other side and that has worked for me no longer breaking engine mounts
CaMpylobacter
we used to whack the venerable mazda round ones in the couple of 2litre swap we did back in the day. from rx2-s4 rx7 i think. and 626s and shit. such a sweet mount.
Gaz
A set of round Nolothane ones just went on trademe for $100 new!
escorted
If all else fails try chris at suspension tech. He knows mounting escort engines backwards
peteretep
yeah the mounts were from him, thats why i never questioned the sizes, but i'll give him a call tomorrow, and may end up going the round pinto ones
bigfoot
we had similar probmles when we put dylans old road car engine into 1 of the bosses dirt car escorts. apparently the cortina block is narrower
d.p.n.s
i also have heared that. and looking at the gaps that you have i dont think the round pinto ones will make that much differance . just make a spacer plate to go between the mounts and motor and use longer bolts like what you did with the washers but out of a steel plate.just make sure that its big enough so the mounts sit flush on the x member. if there is a gap between x member and mounts as you bolt them on it will slowly start ripping the rubber off
My name is Russell
I have had similar problems with my pinto and as a result it kept breaking gbox crossmembers. Fixed it by just placing spacers under the rubber were it meets the crossmember. Iv got two spare sets of engine mounts now i could give you some measurments off if thats any help? Gaz
I wouldnt space the mounts like you have. It changes the load to point loads rather than spread out over the whole plate. Gaz

My name is Russell
You could just improve on what you have done and use a plate instead of the nuts as spacers

peteretep
oh haha, hope the motor lasts a bit longer than that I talked to suspension tech, and he said something about cutting off the urethane and redoing them longer, but as sheepies said to me earlier, and as i had thought about, it seems dodgy just extending it, so im going to try get the steel made longer or find some proper mounts
sentra
with some heavy guess deduction make 2 plates one 3/4" and one 3/8" put the thick one under the side with the nuts thin one other side use current blocks win notice use of imperial spacers for your imperial england car
