nothingsfree
Rust can fuck off and die! BTW anybody bought Por15 in chch recently, I still need to get round to getting some, who stocks it? Or do I need to pull out the yellow book and let my fingers get some exercise?
fuel
holy fuck that's some chronic rust!! I'ld hate to know how much rust is really in my Corolla.. already had heaps in both sills, B and C pillars, guards and doors and rear 3/4 panel. Rust like that in the firewall would just gut me. http://www.por15.co.nz lists all the stockists around the country.
nothingsfree
Yeah tell me bout it. If ya read my first post in the project, I thought I had a fairly rust free car, seems it saved up all that rust and stuck it in one corner haha. Can you imagine if it was in an accident? The whole front would snap off! haha. Thanks for the link bro!
ryanfels
Shit that sucks man. My ke70 wagon had rust up there aswell and was leaking in the foot wells like crazy so i firbe glassed the holes up, worked a treat haha. Was to scared to drill out the spot welds and see how bad it really was
nothingsfree
Haha yeah I thought about doin that. But because this is a car Im not planning to get rid of at some stage, Id rather have a rust free body. Would annoy the hell out of me knowing I had something like that sitting there getting worse... danger
Rust like thats pretty standard on DX's bro. they all die up in there due to shit drainage and half the time cause of people removing the vent cover.
nothingsfree
Yeah tell me bout it, Iv got 3 of the bastards, but its not normally that bad.. Such a stupid idea having it open to the elements when they dont even have decent drainage!

nothingsfree
Anybody who has used dry ice to get rid of the sound deadening, did you just spread it out on the floor pan, or stick it in something like a bag? Gonna have to go thru this mission again haha...
SHGWAG
How are you going about mounting the engine? Are you going to maout it way foward & save your gearbox tunnel but screw up the "mean" handling of the "Phat DX" Or are you going to cut your tunnel & mount the bitch way back? You using the series 5 mounts or you going to run a 1st gen front cover & mount of the front of the block??
tortron
forget dry ice, just hammer and chisel it out maybe a heat run for the remnants

You using the series 5 mounts or you going to run a 1st gen front cover & mount of the front of the block?? Nah engine is getting shoved right down Kermits throat. I had already played round with the fitting abit on the other shell and have it sitting so the series 5 mounts sit back on the cross member. I would put it back even further, but then run into trouble with the exhaust ports being right where the steering column meets the rack, and I have no desire to mess with the position of the rack. As it is, the back of the engine sits basically directly inline with the firewall, so it is pretty far back anyway. Will have to make up a custom exhaust manifold to space the turbo out and make room for the wastegate and exhaust to somehow get past the column and under the car... SHGWAG
What turbo are you going to run? standy s5?
nothingsfree
Nah its a s5 rear, with a Turbonetics .60 compressor. So will still be responsive but abit more grunt. Im not after big power, although the engine could handle it with the mods its had, but the 300+ rwhp will be more than enough to get into trouble in a sub 900kg car... Just spread it around, wear welding gloves or something too. Fuck chiseling the shit off, dry ice makes it so much quicker and cleaner.
