I learnt 2 things today.

1: The importance of making sure you have the correct and tight wheel nuts

2: AAplus is so mean to have when you breakdown. Free tow home :D

I was driving down the motorway and the slight shake the lada recently developed got 10x worse instantly. So i pulled over and found these next to my car.

The left front wheel was only held on by one bolt and somehow the three broken ones manged to stay in their holes till i was almost pulled over on the side then fell out. i found them just behind the drivers door as i was walking back after checking under the front for broken steering parts. lucky they did stay in that long or i wouldnt have noticed what the problem was and may have driven off.

I think they snapped due to being abit loose. either that or the fact that due to closer inspection of the snapped off ones, they are close but not quite a perfect fit for the wheels.

Either way i learnt a vaulable lesson and am off to buy some decent new ones that are 110% perfect fit for the wheels.

Just letting everyone know to check these things and not to make a stupid mistake like i did.

in my old '80 sigma wagon, when we went and scrapped out the national front in wellington(05 i think?) one of those pussy ass excuse for skinheads undid the wheelnuts on one of my wheels, sheered off one like in the pic and yeh, the wheel nearly came right off.. gave me a bit of a tingle, i was doin 100k round a bend when it happened...

just had three studs ever after til i sold it, even thru a warrant.

when i picked up the escort from waimate,i was driving back home,in the lindis pass the arse was vibrating hard out,was getting worse,so i pulled over and found all 4 wheelnuts were only held on by 1/2 a turn...so damn lucky man...i had no wheel brace,so i flagged down a guy in a suby, cos i knew that subys are basically the only car with a 19mm wheel brace  ....did them up and got home ok...

it slotted my rostyle spare pretty good...

my tip is:

allways have a wheelbrace

check wheelnuts on cars you buy etc..

Yeah, a few years ago my dad had his Prado stolen, it was gone long enough that we got a new car but a few weeks later the police found it out at the Hunua's being prepared to be stripped. Anyway, Toyota signature class ending up buying the car(only coins etc were taken) and selling it to a friend of a friend of my dads, on the way home from buying it on the motorway people starting pointing out at the new owners wheels as she went over to the harbour bridge. Turns out the signature class 108 point check doesnt include checking wheel nuts, she just got home but every wheel nut was fully mashed.
